I came across this article today. https://www.rt.com/usa/319524-tampons-cotton-glyphosate-monsanto/ Basically, most sterile cotton products, including tampons, have been found to contain glyphosate, a carcinogen found in round up spray. I'm thinking about switching to menstrual cups, since this is pretty disturbing to me. What do you think?
I don't know about any of that, it's hard to assess the validity of a study from an article that was written about it. but I made the switch the menstrual cups a while ago. Even if the claims made the article are crap, there are a few pluses that menstrual cups that are indisputable: They need only be changed every 12 hours or when full (I have a heavy flow and have never had to change it more than once every 6 hours or so!) They carry no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome--tampons do. Period. (no pun intended) . That's a huge plus for me! They are more eco-friendly--produce far less waste than tampons or pads. Less room in landfills is, in general, a good thing. Save money! The upfront investment in a menstrual cup seems large, but I haven't spend another dime since purchasing the cup a year ago. And the price of period products will only rise. Only downside--there is a definite learning curve to the cup. And there is good chance that the article you posted has some serious points, and I wouldn't doubt it being true. I think you're on to something.
i think that article was total shit. be sure that your tampons will not ruins your life if you put them in a clean way. I' ve never tried the cup, but I think it will be really good in particular for saving money. But I'm a little bit sceptical as you about it.. :/
I would have to look it further but it wouldn't surprise me if round up is found in tampons. A lot of cotton crops are modified to withstand round up so it would logically follow that those crops make it into tampons. I've never liked tampons because they're an irritant to me and cause swelling down there. I only wear them when I'm swimming. I've been wanting to try a menstrual cup.
I think you are at greater risk from chemicals found in food than anything in tampons! The link between pesticides in food & diseases like cancer has been proved & has been around for decades, tampons have been around for decades but I would want to see evidence of a link before condemning them as no one has ever raised this issue before. That doesn't mean it is all balls, but something as safe as a tampon (used correctly!!) used so widely should not be subjected to scare mongering!
So I looked and looked and can't find the original data published anywhere, so I'm calling bullshit too actually. Im still getting a menstrual cup though.
