I'm well aware of that and it was a bad decision and oh, btw she's from an orthodox jewish family but is known for her anti-semitic rants Like i said she's all messed up.
It didn't occur to me she was black. But then, I didn't know anything about her until this Earth-shaking incident. And I'm not a person to look at race anyway, and don't think it matters. But lawd, you wouldn't think there's any unnecessary hunger, violence, or deaths in the world with all the attention this incident is getting!! That's gotta be the most racist comment made yet in this whole argument. That is exactly the kind of thought and speak which keeps racism alive and festering. Out of one side of the mouth we're saying that race should not matter in how people are treated, while out the other side comes stuff like that. "X" is okay for one race but not another. Yikes! You can't have it both ways. Time for some introspection, peeepull!! The evidence certainly supports that theory. LOL
Calling a white person an ape doesnt have the same racial connotations ....white people werent portrayed as ape like and like a lower species of being for much of their history What’s So Wrong About Roseanne Barr's Tweet
Yes. She is African-American/black and I'll admit that I didn't know that when I first saw it on the news. But I don't think the connotation is any less offensive even if the woman were white. I think it would still be a racism issue because the comments still carry the weight of the racist jargon. Remember what Roseanne said. I don't need to repeat it but I think it's definitely over the line.
Oi, she's all messed up is she?, because of a tweet over one of Obamas aids she thought was covering up for him? And like you or anyone else cared about any non existant jewish rants before this $40 million in assets even before the reboot Prince ODing on horse tranquilizers, Chester Bennington killing himself on the birthday of one of his "heroes" that killed himself, ISIS killing babies.....these are things that are "messed up" Roseannes late night anti Democrat tweet - storm in a teacup
You do get thats kind of racist in itself right? - assuming that all exploitation of centuries past was because EVERYONE thought blacks were sub-human, thats most plausible to you, thats why you believe it
Please indicate where I said everyone and then please cite sources that indicate this was not the prevailing thought process during the Triangle slave trade era. Thanks! Recognizing history for what it was is not racist.
Another casualty of the hyper-sensitive media, social justice warrior hypocrisy league! Meanwhile I'm surprised that Chris Rock hasn't been offered his own primer time sitcom for wanting cops to shoot more white kids! And it was NEVER a problem to suggest a white person looked like a monkey or ape or anything else. I remember an episode of The Simpsons where they portrayed George Burns as a monkey. Nothing but laughs, as long as it's toward a white person, nothing but laughs.
Are there actually people in 2018 who don't understand that calling a black person an ape is racist; or are they just trying to convince us (and themselves) that they don't understand that? These people are either racist or ignorant. It's one of the two.
I'm going to where the black folks are relegated and ask some of them why being called an ape would bother them. I'll be fine. Then I'll try the white area. I'll be fine.
Thanks! Ok, I see the rationale behind trying to make this racist. Still, we don't know if she meant it in a "race" light or a "looks" light. By this logic, if I call a child or sibling of mine "lazy", then I'm being racist. Simply because one race was considered lazy by another race at some time. So now nobody can use that word without being racist. In the words of who said it, "that logic is truly dizzying"! I guess it doesn't help to point out the logical fallacies in these silly arguments, which arguably promote racism by purporting to denounce it. People want to see things a certain way regardless of how they are, and they'll craft a great sounding argument which skews reality to their own view. Good on them for trying, but bad on the suckers who fall in their trap. Of course, in a world with no shame... This is great evidence that debate competition should be mandatory in high school.
You're trying really hard to remove the context of the time we are living in and the confines prescribed by societal norms in the U.S. generally; but more specifically to this board! Good look with it all, TrudginAcrossTheTundra. I honestly wish you nothing but the best, but I simply cannot and will not agree that what Roseanne is trying to say is anything but blatant racism.
The thing is, it’s also about “will what she said cause us to lose ratings thus, advertising dollars?” Her tweet was offensive and the fall out to the network in terms of revenue, could be huge. You’re not a lone voice anymore when you are a celeb working for a network, you represent that network. So that is probably why they canceled the show. So, some here might not consider her tweet to be racist but you’re not having to answer to customers, advertisers and investors. With that in mind, you have to do what’s best for your company.
Thanks for the well wishes, and likewise of course! I reached the same conclusion that you're not going to accept any other point of view, at least not soon. I do hope you come to understand where I'm coming from in time though. If we're to eradicate racism, we're going to have to stop reading racism into everything. The only way it'll go away is to stop paying homage to it. Hope that helps.
I hear you. I think that philosophy of "stop paying homage to it" only works if people know what racism is. I think the answer is education. I personally just finished a college sociology course relating to race and ethnic groups. The sociology of racism fascinates me. It's like, race is truly defined by where you are. It's not the same everywhere. Regardless it's merely a social construct. I recently heard a song pitching the idea that time is a social construct. Is that to say there is no such thing? I don't know. Anyway, I learned lots and keep the text around on my laptop so that I can share wisdom from time to time. I don't think that we can ignore racism though. That isn't going to make it go away. People don't realize how microagressions inflict damage to others. Whether racist or not, Roseanne's comment was destructive. It was meant to be humorous, but at what expense? I mean, are we to believe that it's okay to disparage someone simply because we don't agree with them? It's not sane.
No, I dont understand. We are all monkeys, just one up the ladder from whichever of the great apes we descended from. I think my avatar looks like Patton Oswalt I think the opposite is going on. Those that are the quickest to be shocked by the planet of the apes comment react that way because they are the ones that think more than most that black people do look like apes. Peoples actions are a far better barometer than the shit that comes out of their mouths. And you ladies going to pretend you arent a little more shocked because she made that comment about a lady? I'm afraid you have all bee caught out. Those that gasp the quickest are in fact the most rascist
