Exactly! When you selectively overreact to an insult towards one race of person over another, then you are a racist.
Simply trying to ignore racial connotations doesn't make them go away. Relaxxx would have us believe there is nothing wrong with a racially charged statement simply because other statements were not racially charged? Personally, I think all of the pictures you posted were insulting and not funny in the least. That doesn't change the facts about what Roseanne said about Valerie Jarrett. She didn't only say planet of the apes. When you pair the two things she said together they make a more clearly racially charged statement. You can't separate the two things she said and try and claim half was racist, but the other half was just ok.
What are you talking about? Muslims? Muslims are not a race, they are a religious cult. Did Roseanne say ALL black people look like apes? A real racist person is prejudice towards an entire race. What is intrinsically racist with the Valerie insult that the other comparisons do not have? Or are you making ASSUMPTIONS based on skin color???????
I agree. With these examples at least. 2 more i noticed that annoyed me: So a white person can compare Trumps face to raw chicken, but a black person can't without being called racist? Or it can be done because he's black (underdog position) but when a white person compares Obama in a similar hilarious way to something its racist... Calling a miscievous white boy a monkey is cute or funny (at least innocent), but if the boy is black it suddenly is an outrageous thing to say. Yeah, fuck that shit (all kids can and should be called monkeys! )
The new show had too many characters . One was going to have to die . Oh , no . Grandpa ? Now what the audience got was a family suicide episode . It's been quite awful . Who's to blame ? It's a game .
Some posters are disconcertingly unconcerned or oblivious to the issues surrounding race. I'm disheartened to see a genuine apathy regarding racism! We don't know if Roseanne knew Valerie Jarrett was African-American or not. But I don't think it matters. The comment was callous and trite, and all the more damaging because it turns out Valerie is African-American. She says publicly that her feelings weren't hurt, but I doubt that's true. I hope she has the network of friends she has talked about in news commentary to support her. I don't think the part of Roseanne's statement about religion is any less racist. It demonstrates unilateral intolerance in both territories: race and religion. That's not good. Furthermore, when someone makes a comment that could be taken to be insinuating racial bias toward African-Americans it's particularly bad because they've been mistreated for centuries. It carries with it the weight of slavery, jim-crow, and societal inequality/systemic racism throughout history and today. I'm honestly surprised that a celebrity in this day and age would even attempt such an outrageous comment, however "comedy" continuously does things like this and her character belongs to that genre, in my opinion.
Bullshit! We don't know she made the ape mask association directly because VJ was part black, apparently. That is YOUR ASSUMPTION. The picture could have just reminded her of the Planet of the Apes character, without any though whatsoever about her race! Roseanne is offensive and ignorant, but is there really any indication that she is a racist? Seriously? Her show always embraced different races. The fact is that white people can insult other whites but not black or they're "racist". If Roseanne was black this would be a non-issue, if VJ was white this would be a non issue. That is a blatant double standard and if you cared about true equality then you wouldn't stand for it.
Boo hoo, and Jews were murdered by the millions. Do you see Jews going bat shit off the rails when a comedian insults one of them? Get over it. By being all hyper sensitive and over-reactive every time you ASSUME an issue MIGHT have been racial, when there's not even any real proof, you're escalating and inventing racial tensions that shouldn't exist. Lots of bad shit happened to a lot of people in the past, get over it. Strive for real equality, not suckling sensationalist victim culture.
I assume you not a Jew or black guy from your posts. The thing is you as a white man don't get to decide what is racist to other types of people they do. It's a very common right wing thing to have this "everyone is a victim and I don't like it, so actually racism is a made up problem" attitude. You have no idea it's just not true. The Roseanne attitude is racism and you ignoring it will not solve anything.
I read, and don't have time to look up where, that Roseanne thought the woman was of Middle Eastern decent.
Good job, @Aerianne @soulcompromise -- see what @relaxxx is saying??? This is what I was telling you too. Please try to understand it. I mean, if you really want change, not pretending.
