One question. Why do we, as 'peace-lovers', 'freedom fighters', activists and anti-war protests "get" music more when it's poetic? In other words, why do us hippies dig poetic (psychedelic?) music? Does it allow us to open our minds more? Does it allow us to understand the true meaning behind the words?
I don't think that's limited to hippies or peaceful people, or in music to rock or psychedelic music. Some are in it for the tunes/groove, some for the lyrics, some for both and some just because it's the music to listen to . Same with death metal, grindcore, punk, goth, new wave, pop etc. etc. Different people like it for different reasons.
That's one good question there . I think that in (music) history, many more peole are getting to know the less wimpier stuff that's out there not only in music, but in art, etc. Music (as an art) is NOT al the same.....and I'm not talkng about types or genres of music but MUSIC as an art...too many people forget this..they think music is only a surrogate-thing that's there in the background of our lives aned that's all. I hope that makes sense
Cheers guys The assignment is finished, but I love this thread XD Imagine if the song "Imagine" or "American Pie" or "San Fransisco" was originally sung by a scream-metal band. Don't you think it'd lose it's impact just a bit?
I totally agree here.....just listen to Slayer's version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida to see that the song did NOT lose its original impact....thanx to Slayer's fine arrangements :cheers2:
All I have to say... "What Do You Want? Fun! What Do You Want? Fun! What Do You Want? Fun! Want! Fun! Want! Fun! We Want To Have Fun And We Want To Get Wasted!"
Personally i would go for anything where James Maynard Keenan is the lyricist. The rhyme scheme, the metaphors, and the rhythm all remind me of beautifully written poetry.
