I hate those bands who copy other peoples music! I was @ salvation army yesterday and I got a record called "TODAYS GREATEST HITS" (FROM 1974) but i didnt notice it says "Featuring The Realistics" on it!!! It has 20 excellent 70s songs on it BUT NOT BY THE ORIGINAL ARTIST!!!!!! I listenend to it for 5 secs, took my needle off and am gonna bring it back 2morrow Oh my lord, you should hear these songs!!!!! -- THEY ARE HORRID!!!!! "Bad,Bad Leroy Brown" sounds horrible!!! (The guy SOUNDS LIKE Jim but he isnt and it sounds like crap) ISNT IT SAD WHEN BANDS CANT MAKE THIER OWN MUSIC SO THEY STEAL OTHERS AND TURN IT INTO CRAP??
Unfortunatly Over The Years I Have Bought Lot's Of Those, I Just Give The Cover A Quick Check, *yep i love those songs* Then When I Play It I Have The Same Experiance That You Had, In The Worst Examples, Apart From The Words, It Was Hard To Reconise The Original.... Cheers Glen.
many people read the labels on the various things they buy also....I like when one band covers another....
Come the fuck down dude, they didn't steal anything... They no doubt paid for the rights to record and publish those songs.
It's arguable that they don't have any creative talent. I recognize the negative stances on these kind of bands and albums though but really, if they enjoy what they do (and we can easily ignore it if we don't enjoy it) then the music had it's purpose. If it annoyed you to death and make your taste more solid it could be argued that even that was part of the purpose
Very true, I did not mean to imply that I dislike all modern music, I listen to plenty of modern stuff, like the Black Keys.
I listened to them too. They are kind of boring to me overall but one of my favs of them remains to be a Keef Hartley cover  I'm not kidding I really do like Dan Auerbach's soloalbum though.
I thought they were typical another retro duo band of which we saw more and more since the White Stripes got popular. They don't sound that unique to me at all. All they do is recycling the blues rock sound. Not saying that can't sound great but with one guy on drums and the other on guitar it can only sound refreshing if you have either a really nice and catchy sound or really nice songs. That's why I find them rather boring. I would not dare to conclude just out of that that they aren't creative or skilled etc. But they aren't a really remarkable modern band in my book.
Black keys are not modern music, they might be contemporary but they are retro as hell... ...most folks haven't even caught up with modern music from 100 years ago Here's some 20 yr old "modern" music for ya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q55XFqB4nUI"]Damp Ankles and St. Etienne - Frank Zappa - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imAWVWi5PIU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imAWVWi5PI
With modern I guess we just ment current or relatively recent bands. But I agree some bands from 40 years ago can be considered having a modern sound too for sure
Maybe they can't. Lots of famous artists didn't write their own stuff. Not every musician is necessarily a great songwriter you know... and some songs are so good, lots of musicians just want to play 'em Like Al greens "Take me to the river' for instance... Wiki; :beatnik: At least a handful of the most famous classic rock bands "covered" Robert Johnson , Willy Dixon, Muddy waters, John lee Hooker, etc...
I wouldn't want to play in a band that plays strictly covers but...ask anyone who has gigged a lot....cover bands make the most money on the small time live circuit. I know guys who are incredible musicians with their own great music but play in cover bands because they get paid well.
Bingo....a little sad, but true. In many ways a good cover band could have a higher level of musicianship than some of the bands they are covering because they have to perform more than just one bands style night after night.
