Yesterday was the day to be named Simone! Simone Biles and Simone Manuel - GO USA! and of course...I love my frat boy, Michael Phelps, but his name isn't Simone...just had to throw that in there.
Yes, and Simone Biles was ridiculously impressive Especially her routine on the beam, flipping and bouncing away, made it look so natural
I would take him this year over the two choices we have....not eligible until 2020 unfortunately. I was just going to look up yesterday's race to see if he won. Thanks for saving me the trouble. Track coming soon. I can watch that. 10 seconds and on to the next event.
3 Olympians were robbed at gunpoint or something. I cannot understand this mentality. Is there no such thing as honor? The thieves must have known the victims were Olympians! Actually, I hope they didn't. Inexcusable if you ask me. Ryan Lochte was one of the Olympians that was robbed.
I just read about them being robbed! 3 swimmers if I'm not mistaken. smh no honor...if anything...the thieves figured Olympians would have some cash on them. :-o Usain Bolt is another one that is unreal...I SAW HIM WIN! The commentators were talking about him "struggling" initially or some such bs...he turned it on at the end and BAM...strolled on in like nothing! This is the year for "old" people to win... Then the Farah dude that FELL when he had first started out in the race, and then went on to win a Gold medal!!! I was/am impressed beyond what I can express. What was the thing he was doing with his arms? What did it symbolize? edit: I just read where it was Lochte and 3 other swimmers that were robbed...they had been in a taxi and stopped by fake police. One of the swimmers refused to get out and lay down, as instructed, because he "hadn't done anything wrong" (he didn't yet realize they were being robbed) but he found out real quick that he would yield his wallet.
I think that was just a qualifying round? He's running now in the semifinal round. He's right beside our Canadian. We're expecting De Grasse to win. :-D Edit: Bolt won of course, but De Grasse was so close to him!
I kept my tablet on while the medal awarding ran late, watching for an expected tribute or accolades for Phelps, and was surprised when there were none. It was a Canadian station. Was there more on NBC maybe?
They asked him some questions and his team mates kept saying things to him like he couldn't quit, and how they wanted him to be there for 2020. But no, nothing like I somewhat expected. Of course you know I LOVE him ( ) but he was almost eloquent with this explanation of retiring at this time. He said his life wasn't "over" but that he had other plans to take himself in another direction. I've paraphrased...his statement was much better! I was disappointed he wasn't given more of a "to do"; but he appeared happy as a lark. One Very Funny thing - as team USA was waiting for the medal presentation and the pictures, Phelps was talking and laughing the Whole Time to his team mates, and you could tell they were tickled to death by what all he was saying. This is the part I like the best - as he was talking, he kept his hand OVER his mouth the whole time so the entire freaking world couldn't tell what all he was saying that had him and his team mates cracking up.
Simone Biles just gave yet another flawless performance - this was in vaulting...another Gold. you go girl!
Simone Biles was very good. She's very athletic. Our Andre De Grasse actually got a bronze medal in the 100m. Didn't expect that. It's his first Olympics, he must be over the moon. He must feel great being up there with the big names. He's only 21 (Usain is 31, the U.S. athlete 35). Usain got a slow start and I watched flabbergasted thinking he might not make it to the podium! Then he came up behind the U.S. guy just in the nick of time to nab the gold.
It seems like Usain always does that when I've watched him race. No matter how fast it seems he is going/trying, at the end, he just hits another gear and is in front!!! I remember hearing them talk about De Grasse but to tell the truth I was all eyes for UB. lol Google says he is 6'5" but I think he looks even taller than that. The newscaster he was talking to way earlier in the evening must have been shorter than me because he seemed to have about a foot and a half on him. Now its back to girls playing volleyball in swim suits in sand...so I'm not even thinking about following that. ha
Usain Bolt had it all the way. He was just teasing the audience and his fellow competitors He has the greatest running stride ever. Hotwater
I used to love watching Apolo Anton Ohno for the same reason. He'd be skating away at his own pace, always lagging behind, then push past everyone to win. That's the closest I've ever seen Usain come though. Even the commentators were saying he had to work to catch up. I thought Gatlin was going to take it. It looked like Usain forgot where he was! Maybe it was all a ploy. I know, Usain has such a presence. When he came barrelling forward, I forgot all about our guy. lol
Its kind of all a little fishy, its all kind of not adding up these games. Now, I'm not talking about conspiracies, and definately not talking about drug cheating when it comes to the like of Bolt or Phelps I'm talking about genes and the role of modern sport science / medicine Is all the advancements in sport science widening that gap between the genetic "freaks" for want of a better term and, well everybody else That 100m dash, EVERY other competitor was obviously putting every last kilojoule into that last 30m, but Bolt just looked like he was at 80%, then decided, oh ok, I'll just kick it into 5th gear and wham, the other runners were like the best other 7 or 8 in the world and yet none of them even look like him, dont seem to be in the same category......the best of everyone else in the world??? And Bolt is almost 30 Thomson in the womens 100m dash, kind of the same thing again, compared to her the rest of the field in the final looked like a YMCA meet compared to her, although she is young The kenyans and ethiopians dominate in long distance running, but dont get all that much funding, if someone threw the same kind of money into their training / coaching as Phelps gets, would those two countries then totally dominate in long distance running and be unbeatable? Ive heard a lot of commentators say both Bolt and Phelps are the best we've ever seen we will never see the likes of them again. I'd bet we see it in 2024, but then again, why are there only one of them each, in the whole wide world?
