Oh dear, the youtube era Day whichever highlights from our local broadcaster, about 5 minutes long, and thats all I really have to watch everyday Read somewhere NBCs ratings in the States are down bigtime, many blaming the delays in broadcasting live events, I dont think its that. Think its the youtube thing, why bother watching the tv sitting through an hour of kayaking when all highlights from every other sport is already on youtube Will youtube end up killing the olympics If in a decade they arent going to get billions of $ from all the worlds tv networks, then what?
Phelps just won the 4th gold in a row. In (less than) 30 minutes he is to compete again. He is a beast in the water! oldest to do this...and he is still coming on strong! and just for another fact, his fiance is beautiful :gorgeous:
Kudos to Phelps on winning his 22nd gold medal And kudos to Fiji for winning their country's first ever gold medal with the Rugby 7s
Watching rowing. Brits have a big lead. New Zealand comes from nowhere to get within a boats length. Announcer screams "HERE COMES THE KIWIS" I got an lol out of it.
Phelps in another record breaking race. Not getting the gold but it was the first time there was ever a 3 way tie for the silver.
We've had a piss poor games, especially in the pool, think only two gold in the pool. usually at least 5 Thus we get most of our medals in the first week So that prediction wont come true, looks like GB will kick our arse
Katie Ledecky achieves awesomeness!! http://www.espn.com/olympics/swimming/story/_/id/17291237/on-night-appropriately-katie-ledecky-eclipsed-michael-phelps
Not taking anything away from Ledecky, but you got to wonder about the quality of the rest of the field if the same person can win both the 200m and the 800m Should be totally different types of races, one is a sprint, the other a mini marathon....in the past usually won by totally different types of athletes Phelps too, at 31, shouldnt really be able to beat everyone else in the world I know that might sound like sour grapes, its not, both are awesome champions, but seriously, what is going on with the rest of the world?
well you are a bit right and a bit wrong vanilla. phelps was the best swimmer for the past 16 years. (someone had to be, right?) but like you said, he was not a short distance racer. all his medals are for 100-400m and all for butterfly or freestyle. you are correct he is not two totally different kinds of athletes. he is one that is good at two different swimming styles...well the best at two different styles. now as for the lack of quality in womans swimming...that could be said if we only looked at this years swimmers. lets look at more than that, she broke the world record by 10 seconds. so to put that in context, if they had all the best swimmers in the history of the sport in their prime in that race....she would have still won by 10 seconds. you cant blame lack of competition for her golds this year. and once again you are right, she is no sprinter. she dosnt hit her stride untill the 200m mark...but once she gets there she is the fucking energizer bunny. and one final stat that you all may or may not know. she has the top 13 times in the 800m. it kind of reminds me of usain bolt, but nobody is saying he is the fastest man alive because of lack of competition.
Yeah, but if Bolt won the 800m as well, more people would be like dafuq??? because more would take notice of the track over swimming Its kind of the same as if Bolt won the 800m on the track, its a little bit hmmmmm
i wonder if he could, he gets such a big lead over the fastest sprinters...i wonder when his speed falls off the cliff.
