Big band drumming is horridly simplistic, unchallenging and boring, right?

    ...

Cause else I'd not meet the job description. :/

Of course there'll be clarinets - played by doubling sax players, along with flutes and maybe even a bassoon on occasion.

Well, looks like double bass and guitar are taken, but I can belt out a mean jazz voice if thats still up for grabs. "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that swing!"

I suppose we could bring on a special guest vocalist on occasion, just as long as they don't try to make the band their own personal backing group, as a lot of singers do.

Looks like we've got a pianist. Only grade 8 though? Still, at least grade 8 shows potential and means you're better than I am on piano!

Well I saw Pete Long the bari sax player doubling on Oboe with Jools Holland's band once, so there's no reason why not!

Good good. I can't sight read on the piano these days - spent too much time playing single line instruments on which my reading is fine, but don't practise on the piano much and almost never with music in front of me. Re exams though, people who say they've got grade whatever are still beginners. Grade 8 is the last exam you take before you start approaching professional standards, but there's still a long way to go yet. Massive gap even between Grade 8 and the old Advanced Certificate (now Dip ABRSM).

I don't sight read for any instrument. My neighbor had a nice Steinway. I tuned it for them and they had to sell it. I recorded myself playing Imagine on it... Haha, I also discovered how to play This Love on it. :p I wish we still had an organ. We used to have a Hammond B3 that belonged to my great uncle (he was actually a homosexual baptist preacher and played in a rock/jazz/blues band on the side... as well as being the town doctor  .)

Can you play rach's third piano concerto? It's really cool!

Oooh now you've got me thinking of Eric Morcambe!
