The side that wants to ban guns alltogether remains a tiny minority it seems. Most in favor of gun control literally want improved gun control.

 

Same here! And precisely why I support second amendment rights. Why I chose to become proficient with tools including firearm operation, taught my children these skills, and am teaching my grandchildren. We can't effectively help others unless responsible to provide.

 

Then again, some disguise their ultimate end goal as some intermediate baby steps, which they continue to build on, using coercive tactics, to approach. That's why we have to be wary.

Being wary is ok, being against improved gun control because it might be a babystep towards a more extreme possibility (taking all guns) is not ok. Improved gun control is undeniably needed, unless one is ok with all gun victims.

Fine, but then in order to compromise, we have to agree on what is "improved".

Someone who recognizes certain restrictions as not being improvements cannot be legitimately expected to allow it and call it a compromise.

True, what is actually good improvement remains arguable. But people who don't want any changes are gonna be disappointed anyway. They have to allow, as in accept, certain changes, and if not use legal ways to object and protest.

I propose we reintroduce marksmanship into all our high school programs and require successful completion for graduation.

That would definitely be a change for increased comprehension and improved safety.

WE can have a good estimate of the number of gun owners from the NRA and other gun rights organizations. We can also get names and addresses. So with that information on hand and also the FFL yellow sheet applications, and police records; we can go around and start the confiscation of any illegal weapon. Lots of these white separatists have converted cheap Chinese guns like the SKS into a fully automatic and large capacity weapon. Such weapons are already illegal and we would be well within our rights to go and confiscate them. Naturally, we can at the same time take an inventory of what's out there, just in case some states have outlawed other variants of illegal guns. Remember that the shooter in Las Vegas had used an external device on his semi auto-rifles to make them full automatic rapid fire conversions. He shot nearly 600 innocent people, killing nearly 60 of them.

 

You do that and I'll reintroduce a repeal of the Second Amendment. Our nation would be much better off if we ban all guns and confiscate what's out there.
