Assuming you're asking relative to the NSA collecting phone records, the obvious answer is to exercise caution when using the telephone to assure that you say nothing that could be used by government to incriminate yourself.

If resistance requires that there be those willing to resist and one person protesting is not a resistance... it's considered a nutter; you're logic is correct that it's going no where.

However I'm not so sure your logic is correct; if it is, resistance is futile.

Thoughts and words form ideas which precede (resistive) action. Is raising awareness of that to be resisted doing nothing?

I've been in grass-roots politics, involved in writing, passing and/or abolishing ordinances and statutes, aligned with anarchist values and allowing people more freedom to live in the manner they chose.
I have made personal efforts toward a better world with tangible results.
    you?
Be a brave girl and don't desert your country that gave you so much privilege.
Live up to that user-name or change it, you're not resisting anything, you're running from it.

Here are a few things you can do to improve the situation:

Fight for better privacy by encrypting your traffic, writing your representatives and asking that they put a stop to this, writing tech firms to seize and desist, operate a tor exit node.

Big, fast cars; the Jones' lawn; MTV Cribs...

    Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Avarice shall give way to tyranny, apathy, and paranoia.

    Count your blessings.

There are those in the world who will know neither peace nor joy.
Some will never even know clean drinking water.

Intension, by Tool, would also be apropos (as would Vicarious).

Everybody, and nobody. As a human, I have flaws, and that means that I occassionally falter, but I always pick myself back up and dust myself off before setting off again, trying not to stumble. It's all about balance: living a balanced life requires hard work. Do you understand what I'm getting at? True strength can be seen in grace.

Humanity could be so much more than it is right now. Not only is diversity beautiful, it is necessary for survival, even on a genetic level: science has suggested that many women are often times attracted to men who are genetically dissimilar. The developing theory is that this is done in order to help create a stronger immune system (see: inbreeding).

Love begets love, hate begets hate.

Not spying on a decent-sized portion of the world's population seems like a good start.

Respect, Responsibility, and accountability? What novel concepts. =)

I was being smart: I proposed an alternative way of looking at the short composition that I had shared, as the analogy of a glass being half-full is, itself, a statement about perception. You inferred that people today were often reaching for fulfillment, which was why they were pessimistic, and I made an observation about where many people find their fulfillment here in the United States of America. Are we on the same page, now?

Capitalism, corruption... what are we to do, then?

So is your grass-roots politics a facebook page? Or is it that you have a cushy job on council?

I was once out there doing it with Vicky Pryce and various groups of the LFN. In the end it started to become clear that the 60s are gone and we were fighting for people that could care less.

As for my nation.. yea like it did anything for me except strap me with debt. Then call me a stuck up Irish b**** when I wouldn't spread my legs for a bloke or when I complained about something I would be reduced told I was acting like blooming Scot that should go back to the welfare state England created.

England can get stuffed. I'm leaving.

I'm not against your decision to leave, but your decision to help people should never be tied to any reward you think you'll get, including recognition, or you'll always be disappointed.

The reality that you describe is that which must be overcome. How will other people get involved if there aren't those who are actively voicing their dissent? Talk on the matter is at least better than silent submission--or wallowing in hopelessness.

Cushy job on council, Alderman. :D lol
(no longer, moved out of the county)

I'm sorry you were treated badly Rif :(, and I admit to being fairly naive about society and politics over there...
The US has done me a whole buttload of injustice, fortunately
I'm not saddled with debt, but on the other hand I don't own anything either.

Be careful Rif, don't get your ass stuck in a country that could cause even more harm to you should things go wrong. Please don't go to the middle east right now, you could end up really regretting it...

I don't want or need reward or recognition.
But if I'm out there getting tossed about by the constabulary I would like to be able to believe that those I'm fighting for would do something more with their lives because of my efforts.

    I don't see that happening.

Well in a historical sense, I bet there were a thousand Ghandi's that got bulldozed to the side for every one successful spark of revolutionary action.

And I'm not telling you that you can't hang up your hat, because maybe it is that time, but that doesn't mean that revolution is pointless either. My advise is to try not to get cynical, which you sound to my ears.

Sometimes, the fruits of your labor won't be realized for more than at least a generation.

What will you offer for the future generations of our race?

Not at all, just convey messages you wish to keep private through means which provide adequate security if you don't want government or others to eavesdrop.

Very well: where can we find information on encrypting private transmissions?
