That's right. The Trump supporters here fit that description real well. One guy who lives within walking distance from here has the "Don't Tread On Me flag in front of his house and claims to be a preacher ... and a Trump supporter. Several miles to the west there is a town which is the home of the founder of the Proud Boys. I've sen lots of armed guys near here. They even go into McDonald's with guns. There is an organization called Indiana Patriot Guard who are former military guys. They are well liked by the Republican controlled government and have their own "Carry Permits" and their own car and motorcycle license plates. They like to intimidate Dark guys like me. They even told me that I'm not allowed in McDonald's when they are using it.
This type of voter suppression has led to a rise in Black militia groups .................. We ready, we ready, we ready, for ya'll
Perhaps part of the problem is that the US has tolerated racist behavior for far too long. My wife taught ESL to Asian refugees and had after school programs for minority students for many years and even here in liberal Western Washington racist hate was a constant. A few days after an evening class she discovered her tires had been slashed by some good old boys, but luckily she wasn’t killed. Maybe a cultural re-education camp for about 40% of our country would help. It’s also stunning that the so-called tea party people don’t seem to have a problem with using public services or a tax system that lets so many wealthy people skate by.
Granite I always get wary when people talk of ‘re-education camps’ but some pushback against the propaganda and racist dog whistles coming from the right wing media would be good. I think there needs to be a new media Fairness Doctrine – The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable, and balanced. Wiki The problem is that too many people especially on the right get to say what they want with little or no consequence – they don’t get fact checked or have their views countered or criticized. I see it here often when a right winger makes statements and then gets huffy (and runs away) when their views are shown to be unsubstantiated, misleading or plain false. So they run away to places where their views are not challenged and only get reinforced with a new fairness doctrine that would become less easy and they might begin to realize their ideas are flawed.
The republicans do not care about being fair concerning anything other than kissing ass to their toothless, gullible base in order to keep their jobs. They don't care about mass shootings enough to even vote for reliable and complete background checks for purchasing guns. Not only do they not care about expanding the right to vote, they want to exclude those citizens that would most likely NOT vote republican. They are bound and determined to cheat , lie, steal elections and do whatever it takes to insure that they remain in power. And they are blatantly announcing their intentions and following through right in front of the public every day, seemingly without repercussions. Not a single republican voted for the Biden passed bill to distribute 1,400 dollar checks to help the citizenry in dire trouble, but are actually now trying to take credit for the bill!! The fuckin' gall of those spinless bastards! I don't think this country is EVER going to recover from the damage that mentally ill prick Trump and the millions of his cultists have wrought upon the working gears of this imperfect democracy. The government , the society and the monetary system has been rigged for the elites from the beginning, but it never shows as much as when republicans come to power with their anti working people , dishonest methods of convincing the know nothings that they will help them against the commie left wingers that want their guns, hate their religions and will set things right if you just believe them. And 74 million do. Sad state of affairs, this attempt at perfecting a democracy when so many are willing to believe a bunch of low rent liars to their own detriment.
About 45% of the population supported Trump when he was having a good day. That's way too many-- and in our electoral system, enough to win elections. But it's never been a majority. Biden has higher approval ratings than Trump only dreamed of.
There's a dude who drives around my community with a gigantic Amerkun flag on the back of his pickup. I've never gotten close enough to see his teeth, but from the rest of his outward appearance I'd guess he doesn't have many. I'd also bet he couldn't pass a civics test for U.S. citizenship and holds a view of what the flag stands for that Adolph would approve of.
Sounds like a bait. Clearly it's long overdue. One picture ID? Oh, the massive inconvenience!!! We need ID to drive legally. Try getting on an airplane. Try buying booze. Tobacco. Ammo. Firearms. Pot. Try entering another country. Try coming back. Try signing up for health insurance. Social security. Medicare. Other govt benefits. Try getting into a bar. Nightclub. And to vote it's just okay to say you are who you say you are??? The hypocrisy. The only ones who want to circumvent voter ID are the ones who advocate cheating. We all know this. Let's stop the misinformation that verification is suppression. Or get rid of ID altogether. If one's suppression, they're all suppression. If one's not, none are.
I would vote to make that a requirement to cast a ballot. Add the definitions of a democracy, a republic, socialism, and communism. Multiple choice would be fine. 20 questions. 80% passing rate adequate.
Trudge But the evidence of any cheating is extremely small, extremely, extremely small - statistically non-existent – (One report reviewed elections that had been meticulously studied for voter fraud, and found incident rates between 0.0003 percent and 0.0025 percent another study only found 31 credible instances of impersonation fraud from 2000 to 2014, out of more than 1 billion ballots cast.). BUT - there are widescale Republican lead calls for regulations that seem specifically designed to favour them winning by supressing the vote of those likely to vote against them. Question – who do you think is acting hypocritically even cynically Question - do you think they are actually trying to tackling fraud or trying to cheat? It seems to me that the only ones screaming about voter fraud are the ones who wish to cheat
