Politico retracted the whole Ben Carson West Point story. Doesn't matter to me either way, I thought he was loony a long time before that story broke.

What do you mean, retracted? Carson made the claim in his book, and no news organization has been able to find evidence that it was true.

Meh, never mind. Ben Carson himself said they did a full retraction which I figured was bullshit, but then I saw from another source they retracted it as well. I just went straight to the source at politico and it appears they only updated the wording of the headline and story to be more accurate

The best one of Carson's is "The Pyramids were built by Joshua for the storage of grain. I can't prove it, it's a matter of faith."

I've been watching the talking heads on TV. Looks like Carson might be gaining traction with Republican voters on this by playing the martyr role against the big, bad liberal media!

I just watched it this morning... and yeah... it sucked.
    I barely laughed.
At least Weekend Update made me smile.
    And the ex-porn star girls.

Both performances by Sia were really good, too.

But easily one of the least funny episodes I've seen lately.

I have to get my beer before tomorrow night.
It's always an amusing ride watching the Republican debates.

I don't play games with shots or drinking when something is said in particular.
I just open my beer and drink. :)

I'll probably head into Hip chat for the debate.

No doubt, that was a jab from the SNL writers who were frustrated by Trump's unwillingness to consider any skits that might offend prudish Iowa voters. Stories about that problem were leaking out all week long.

His hardline core supporters are definitely taking that line.

A new story has come out from a reporter who once saw the inside of Carson's house. The whole house is like a museum of his accomplishments. A couple of pictures were shown. This guy is clearly an extreme narcissist, out of touch with ordinary people. Just like Trump, but with a different way of showing it.

The one that scares me the most is Ted Cruz. The guy is a nut. Can't believe people would actually vote for him, but then again, where ignorance is bliss. . . . .

I've seen that selfie with Jesus before, but I hadn't seen this example of hypocrisy/ego/sacrilege:

I am somewhat amazed by this, by the fact that he is even a semi-serious contender. Imagine him in any meaningful meeting with a foreign leader? I value truthfulness in any politician, but what value does honesty have without tact? Any asshole can be bluntly upfront, but what exactly does that contribute to the presidency?

Exactly. Plus I really don't consider Trump to be honest at all. He says what people are thinking because he knows it is what people are thinking. He panders to the lowest common denominator.

    last nights debate....

Carson doesn't like it when the "media" tells lies about him, but the cons have been calling Obama a Muslim and a Kenyan for eight years.

The cons don't like "gotcha" questions, but spent million$ on 13 hearings on trying to get Hillary in "gotcha" questions on Benghazi. Didn't work, did it. What goes around, comes around.

Rand Paul had the best line last night, when he asked Rubio, "What's conservative about spending another trillion dollars on the Pentagon?"

Kasich sounded the most realistic of the bunch, declaring that deporting eleven million illegals was impossible. After the debate, he said that the aliens would be "assimilated"....by the Borg?

Does anyone really believe the Mexicans are going to pay for the wall?

Does America really want to live like Israel?

Does anyone really believe the IRS will be eliminated? The department of Education?

Cruz had his Perry moment with Commerce...twice.

Fiorina interuptous....Trump calling the kettle black...

War with Iran, Syria, Iraq, Russia, and China...a winning issue?

The legacy of Eisenhower, "The wetback project" is going over like a lead balloon for Trump...betcha.

And what was Marco Rubio's deal about welders making more than philosophers? According to the U.S. Department of Labor's statistics, it's not true (philosophers do far better than welders) but I also wonder about the point, I'm all for welders, and also for more vocational training, and I was glad to hear Rubio's endorsement of that. Republicans in my state have been really critical of vo tech--spending all that money on "grunts". But underlying Rubio's comments seemed to be the implicit assumptions that the worth of an occupation can be measured by pay and the labor market, and that intellectual pursuits which don't produce goods and services are pretty much worthless. To me, that's a disturbing attitude. More anti-intellectualism on the Republicans' part. But I can see why they don't want critical thinkers.

And does he support labor unions such as the Iron Workers (welders)?
