Hi folks - advice needed. I'm an old Brit head who was last in San Francisco in 1966/67 after heading Leary's call and enjoying the best of what Owsley had to offer. After a chaotic life I am returning early March for a 3 week road trip with my son who I believe (like me) would benefit at this time from good hit of positive freethinking alternative West coast America. I am looking for suggestions as to where authentic elements of those halcyon days might still be found, and good places to hangout not just in SF but also Nevada and Arizona. The object is to inspire and remind us that life is fun and fascinating and connected even if the meaning is sometimes unclear.
Can't help you much, since I'm in Boston, but this sounds like fun! In 1997, I made my pilgrimage to Haight-Ashbury, saw the Dead house on Ashbury, also went to the City Lights Bookstore and a few other places. I loved it.
