I agree totally with Yarapario's post but excerpted parts of it for brevity.

This tragedy should never had happened if more ppl - even those not directly involved in gay issues had come forth and said do the right thing.

If more black ppl in the U.S. would admit that gay rights struggles are a mirror of their own.

If fanatical religions would just heed SOME of the teachings of Jesus instead of pounding Bibles and spreading hate.

If so many of those same religious fanatics being exposed doing rentboys, would admit that they were hypocrits and wrong (or if their congregations would wake up to the Truth).

you would think it would be natural for the oppressed that are experiencing similar struggles to join hands. historically, however, this is not the case.

women struggling for suffrag and blacks fighting for civil rights during the same period often talked shit about each other and never joined together.

mexicans and blacks during the fifties did the same thing.

unfortunately, minorities, when unable to vent their frustrations at the majority, will pin their aggression on other minorites.

It's sad, because people feel that it's the best option they have. For someone to feel that killing themselves is better than facing life where people are tormenting them for loving someone, is ridiculous.

Looks like you want attention, because that is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

Edited before I quoted, but you know what I am directing this at.

Yes, because you really benefit from the attention once you're dead, don't you?!

People will kill themselves when they can see no other option. Perhaps threats to commit suicide, or superficial self harm can be seen as attention seeking, but actual death - I can't see it.

I won't continue with this because, one it's stupid, and two, it's off topic.

That is sad. I know there is a feeling that can not be over-come for some people. It is a powerful feeling. It ends up with them ending it all.

No. People kill each other fo far less.

homophobia = the fear of going home.

gloria anzaldua writes about an incodent from when she was a college student. homophobia was largely accepted on her college campus and when a group of students got together to discuss the issue one of her fellow peers admited that she thought homophobia meant the fear of going home after being in res.

as ignorant as this was, anzaldua makes a connection between homophobia and the fear of going home. as do i and it goes like this:

the threat of homophobia, in the most fundamental way, makes all of us queers afriad to go home. afriad what will happen in our home town when people start to find out about our sexuality. afriad to tell our families for fear of abandonment. afriad to tell our friend for fear of rejection. all these examples and more play a role as to why it is so difficult to be openly gay.

what i question is the socio-political climate of a time that manifests these hateful actions in the first place. you bet your boots if tyler had of being fucking some girl in his dorm room the actions of all parties involved whould have been entirely different.

outting someone when they are not ready is huge psychological stressor to an already stressed person who is trying to deal with self-acceptance, self-love and over coming homophobia.

what we need to do is go to the root of the problem and start to dismantle heteronormativity, so that one day, no one will ever have to deal with coming out ever again because sexuality will be normalized, not just heterosexuality.

I had someone call me a dyke the other day. It was intended to hurt my feelings, but it was from someone who'd made several sexual advances toward me and been told no, and for the last time in an unflattering way. I then yelled at him later for asking very personal questions about another girl where I could clearly hear it. Then the names came. ;) I have short hair and I'm not the most feminine lady on the planet, so I guess it made the comment "fair game," but getting mad about it was pointless. So someone thinks of me in an unflattering stereotypical light? So someone thinks being a lesbian is just the worst thing ever? Okay. We live in the West and we're free to have whatever stupid opinion we wish. However, we're not free to visit that stupidity on others to discriminate against them or hurt them. That's where I draw the line. That's when I get huffy. ;)

Oh my. Pentecostal? How about that, sportsfan? :D So little bothers me, fortunately. I'm in the south now.
