Sadly(it seems - or does it (?)), I remember a time before IT. Imagination was the word for all - with or without £. * Sciss, Bag, Brick (Played with hands) * Kerby (a game played on the street, where a football was targeted at the opposite kerb) * Card flicking, (closest to the wall or target) * (Good old) Marbles and of course ... * True, Dare, Kiss. Command or Promise - a game to take to Adulthood
And then there were the other playground games I was forgetting: 44 My Red Letter Please Mr Crocodile They still played British Bulldog when I went to school ... just. But it had been banned before I was old enough to take part. Games of team tag (and team tag on rollerskates ...) were commonplace, however.
I remember 7inch singles, LPs Black and white tv, Jack-a-nory ,noddy , thunderbirds, joe 90 with those terrible puppetshow where you could see the strings beta tapes bellbottoms, No cell phones - no computers playing footy outside till the street lights came on
I got into four square at school, and kickball. When it came to serious sports though I was just too small. I grew my hair out later too, and I wouldn't make the team even if I kicked ass in tryouts... enter my hackey sack, frisbee, and street hockey years...
I remember watching a dodge ball deform around a kids face in grade school..... (I guess he didn't dodge very well) does that count? Anybody remember "Kick the Can" or was that to local to where I grew up?
Yes - "Kick the Can" and "44" were the same game, save for in one you counted to 100 and called out "kick the can, seen you [X], [location]" before starting your run back to the "can", whereas in 44 you counted to 44 and called "44 seen you [X], [location]" before starting your run back to the "can". We played 44 at my village school ... they played kick the can at the neighbouring village school. Failure to abide by the rules did rather ruin it, though ... when the seeker didn't complete their call before starting their run, but rather called it out over their shoulder as they ran back to the "can", it became impossible to beat them to the "can". So the only way to get home safe was to hope they started off searching in the opposite direction, and then breaking cover when they were looking the other way. Made it a far less enjoyable game ...
I remember playing double dutch in the street and we'd stop twirling everytime a car came by. Girls would just sit out the porch and do each other's hair. Does anyone remember when the icecream truck would rings it's bell through the neighborhood and us kids would quick run inside for money. Remember in school passing notes in class instead of texts?
I remember the icecream van and the note-passing ... and the embarrassment and giggling when a teacher intercepted one and read it out to the whole class (or worse still, made the writer read it out to the whole class ...) What was double dutch, though? I dont' think I ever knew that one.
Remember when back in the day, you actually had to have talent to be on t.v? Now anyone with a camera phone can shoot a reality show, where all you have to do is argue to be on the show. Remember how modest all the older t.v. women had to dress? How about how conservative the men were dressed? All in direct contrast to current female stars who are famous for having a sex tape. My how times have changed.
Heheh heck yeah tamigotchi's love those games we used to play OUTSIDE not on t.v * Hopscotch * Jump rope * haha even frick what's it called... omg im too old to remember ! * tag/ freeze tag * gymnastics, cartwheeling all over * biking , not transit * eating together at dinner (and holidays) oh time to call my best friend and tell her to get ready for some oldschool jump rope lol
