The way common ordinary products we have around to this day used to be sold is sometimes strange. And I still remember.

My mother told me she tried baby wipes on me as an infant once. I was born in 1968, and I guess they just came out. They gave me a horrible rash, she remembered. And shampoo used to make your eyes tear up like crazy. Because they had ammonium lauryl sulfate. Ammonia. And, I still remember this too, dish detergent was way too slippery, even when used as directed. The dishes kept slipping out of your hands unless you were very careful. That is why the dishwasher was invented by a rich Chicago socialite in 1850. Because her servants kept breaking her dishes, dropping them as they were washing them.
