There's a fundamental difference right there, 'explore'. Science explores concepts, religion doesn't explore anything, god did it all, done, end of story.
Meditation is religious exploration. spiritual journeys, pilgrimage, are spiritual journeys I strongly suspect you don't know fuck all about quakers, but that's all a spiritual journey, in fact, a lot of religions are all about the journey, the exploration. There is real scientific exploration, absolutely, but there is as much dogmatic crap amongst the scientific community as there is in religious communities. hell, newton left bad math for decades, and it was accepted because it was newtons, and thou shalt not question newton. hell, lamarckian evolution was king for a long time and frenology. it's all dogmatic crap. the thing is with religion it works by a different and much more personal process, so specific dogmas stick around longer. that doesn't make it more dogmatic. just dogmatic in a different way. and a way that makes it much easier to tell the difference between the people who are on a journey from those who are just accepting what their parents taught them.
because the answers aren't there, you are supposed to search for them personally. that seems like a really obvious test to apply to your answer.
No, but I think it's important that there actually be a dialogue about this, atheism has become popular because, well, it's a religion people join to seem smart thanks to dawkins (who is a raving freak) Atheism has some VERY good arguments, but I am REALLY tired of dilettantish atheists pretending they are smarter than anyone because it's this decades version of a peircing, or tattoo, or satanism. Depends on how you interpret that, there are a lot of factions of each of the five major ones (I assume you mean hinduism, protestentism, catholicism, islam, and although I don't think it counts, it usually ends up listed here buddhism) factions of each, except for catholicism, and buddhism (to my knowledge) require a drug sacrament. and buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion, so, if you've got another for the fifth slot I'd be glad for it.
I think atheism is just as ridiculous as Christianity. both presume something that in truth is indeterminate. The existence of god cannot be proven or disproved. So to buy into either form of religion is unscientific.
right on, i feel like atheist is the "cool" thing to be...agnosticism has been the same way too, though - it is already the fad, geez catch up will ya?
Saying atheism is a fad, or 'popular' just sounds like a way to blow it off. Do you seriously believe people are saying "yeah, I'll be an athiest because it's cool", come on. And even if they are, it doesn't make them wrong. Even Richard Dawkins will say he's not an athiest, high level agnostic.
well, i think a lot of young, dumb people are calling themselves atheist without giving it much thought - because it seems edgy it's getting to the point where it all becomes absurd and they are just complaining to complain and makes true atheists look bad
he says it. that doesn't mean he doesn't act in a contrary way. and, yeah, a great many people ARE doing that. just like in the dark ages it was "ook, I won't lose my shop, livelihood, career, life, if I become a christian, less hassle" more teenage rebellion, more lies, more dogma, and just as many people who don't actually examine it. I use a big C and a little c to distinguish Christians and christians for a reason I do the same for Atheists, because I respect Atheists but not atheists.
Until you can prove me otherwise Anyway, agnosticism has been cool since the 70s, you just didn't realize it till now. You're so behind the times Dave.
