Part of the aryan philosophy is based on the Theory of Evolution. Its common knowledge. I learned about it in primary school. By the way I believe in the theory of evolution so don't think I'm blaming it for anything. Hitler distorted it. Faith, or no faith, a man's end values should come under scrutiny first, then we work backwards until we see where religion has come into play, alongside the miriad of other factors that might affect the way we are and we judge the worth of the religion and its place in that man's life accordingly. I know I am right because I can't be bothered thinking about it anymore today. Goodnight.
Doesn't work like that, they didn't kill in the name of atheism, they just so happened to be atheists. And wasn't Hitler a catholic?
All I know is that everytime I get around a group of Catholics they all gossip, envy, lust, overeat, overspend, & disregard everyone elses rights to exist. Cases in point, my current job and my last job. All the Catholics at each attend the same church. (these are in different states) I just watched them attempt to drive me out of a job because they firmly believe that only their friends and fellow Catholics have a right to employment. (keeping in mind that they could literally force someone out into the streets with this behavior) Yesterday, one of the ppl they all picked on was fired because she had the nerve to speak out against them. I took a different tact. I gave them enough rope to hang themselves with, & they did. I still work there. But, I doubt the harassment will stop. My boss noticed the situation, & in a way we are both getting what we want. We work with each other less. What kind of person attempts to destroy another persons livelihood simply because they don't worship, or worship differently? Or simply because they wouldn't want to go to bars with them? It's arrogant, entitled, and evil in a very limited and immature way. I'm fucking sick of religious entitlement. I'm an atheist. I wanted nothing more than employment, & was originally open to new friendships even if we don't see eye to eye on the topic of a god existing or not. I work with children. If they try to bully others out of a job, how much good can they do working with a bunch of mentally ill children that are likley to have been bullied at school? Fucking ridiculous. I see other religious ppl there in higher up positions enjoying the gossip, supporting, & even feeding into this horrible behavior. This is on a small scale, one place of business. Imagine it on a larger scale... Oh wait... Haven't we seen that before in governments? Lesson here is that both religious and non religious ppl are prone to acting like total assholes. But, the ppl claiming to be of higher morality aren't. So, they've one upped the non-religious by hiding behind their religion. The religious have made their religion a scapegoat for evil behavior with their actions.
Thats not the point. The point is that you can have unreasonable beliefs without faith in the divine, just as a person can have faith in the divine and still be reasonable.
Of course, but saying atheism has killed a fuck load of people is wrong, I can't think of a single example of someone specifically killing in the name of atheism.
Like I said, I probably used the wrong wording. I was being facetious and dramatic. I don't actually believe athiesm has killed anyone.
No prob then. But what you said about religion facilitating people's views, saying that it's the person first, religion is secondary, I think that's true, but that's still almost just as bad. Religion gives those people a scapegoat almost, they can hide behind it, because it's their faith, they don't need to justify what or why they believe something. Religion in that way, compounds our differences and divides people more. There's something some guy said, i cant remember who, but it was something like "without religion, you'd have good people doing good things, and bad people doing bad things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion".
I belive religion was a way for rulers to keep people in line, given them something bigger then themself to keep them in line and do what they want, also to keep havic and rebelion down, you have to figure, times were CRAZY at this that time.
I suppose I take inspiration from my sister, she is both a relativist and a Christian. She has somewhat succeeded in keeping her religious beliefs outside of her human reason. She does not press her beliefs on others and she does not dictate that other people should share her values. As long as religion is taken from a relativist point of view, it is not harmful. Maybe it is naive of me to think that masses of people can succeed in operating in this way but it is certainly possible for some.
Hate and intolerance leaves much room for pretty nasty consequences. That applies to everyone. Anyone can twist any idea for their own hateful and intolerant gains. Religion isn't at fault. Atheism isn't at fault. Science isn't at fault. People are at fault for their own actions.
My real scapegoat is Stoicism (idealism), whatever it is. Atheists have killed, but not in the name of atheism. And even the Stoics had a better relationship to their own bodies than the little people who say, "what matters is the inside." Wherever there is the ideal, there is unhappiness.
I'm also tired of the liberal notion that the heights of evil are manifest in Mao, Josef, and Hitler. They are like, superscapegoats.
There's assholes in all walks of life....it's just that religion and political ideologies are some of the best scape goats, because they influence millions of people to commit atrocities, or go along with them. So they are scapegoats with good reason I suppose.... Is Stoicism not built upon the premises that we must control our emotions? You're absolutely right in saying "wherever there is the ideal, there is unhappiness."
Yes. They were afraid of themselves. I don't think people commit atrocities because of influence. They commit atrocities because under certain historical-economic conditions, it is profitable for them to do so.
Really? Hmmm I beg to differ....There's plenty of people that have not personally profited from committing atrocities, yet still commit them...what happens during War is the perfect example of this. Genocides etc... The vast majority of atrocities are definetely started/caused by personal gain though.
