That's the difference, Jesus isn't a religion, christianity is. Did he really call himself prince of peace? How pretentious.
I think religion can be dangerous when people get religious instead of spiritual. I have a spiritual connection to Jesus and God...to the church I have very little if any at all. it just seems like a place people go to feel good about themselves and gossip.
ok. im not talking bout jesus teaching or enyone belife. there is difference between religion and believe and religious people and belivers. i opened this thread to find out what peple like you think (modern hippie people). i myself had done some serious soul searching for last 2 years. i have read bout budhism, islam, paganism and satanism(not the one that people belive they have child sacrifice or any sacrifice whatsoever), christianity and laveynizm. I realised religion(s) is based in believe and there is nothing bad bout that, but to keep people beliving in that they create this code of rules and pump you up with fear that if you break them your gonna go to hell or whatever. i mean ok there are things that should be banned like killing and incest and whatever (as every normal society would banned) but they banned you from living your live in the right way. i myself am a believer but not religious. im raised a catholic and im cool with that but during that time i see a lot of foults in the religioun. rules that are not written in bible. what im trying to say that every religion has a good message. but too keep people focused in theri believe they set this code of rules that they find that those actions risky for they religion. and thats when you are limitet. thats why i think that religion inprisons you. with no disrespect to any religion. i hope you understood what i sad.
i guess if you truly have faith in god being everywhere, or in every moment having meaning, every second of our lives is organized in a way that is far beyond human thought. the structures we have built seem to be no more than faulty models of a much greater order that some of our more realized brothers and sisters have caught some brief glimpse of. that is, to me, the difference between spirituality and organized religion. the difference between walking with god, and talking about it (not to say that talking about god is wrong, but that these two activities should not be confused with each other-that is, unless you are perfected and your words are directly from the spirit).i suppose if you stand back far enough from the situation, everything is spiritual, no matter how flawed.
hey we live in a 3D world. and science has told us that there are more dimensions than three that we see. even time can be changed (see einstein`s theories). so we cannot understaid whats beyond cuse it doest sound logical. so we give it (god, spirits, superior power whatever) 3 dimensional logical definition. WROOOONNGGGG!!!!!!!! thats what i consider to open your mind that even something unlogical to accept. in the end of the day, we are here(we live) and what we do here and now is important and as for another world or dimenson.... later.... but its good to belive in something superior or that there is life after death. its just makes more sense that what we do during the day
i don't know who you mean by we, but i see god as the here and now. also, theories was the key word at the beginning of your post. time is only a concept. our perceptions can be altered, hence changing our concepts about time, but it is not something that can be changed in the physical sense-most likely.
as far as the comment on dimensions, this is also a concept about the different ranges of information that are here and now, which we may or may not have the capacity to perceive at any given moment. the dimension of the slug is far different than ours, but it is right here. my point is that maybe we should work towards seeing a little more of what is right in front of us, rather than limiting ourselves with labels such as "dimension", and "later".
Here's my two cents: Think of all religions as paths. These paths all have one goal. Some call that goal God. Some call it Allah. Some call it the Tao. Others may even choose not to name it at all. But whatever the name or non-name, it is still the same goal. Only the paths are different. THe paths are many. Now, there is nothing wrong with following a path. There is nothing wrong with following a path, then changing one's mind and following another path. And if we do not choose a path, then we have already chosen one - the path of not choosing. There is nothing wrong with any of these options. What's wrong is when we insist that the path we have chosen is the only path, and that everyone should choose our path and nothing else. And it is so easy to fall into the trap of insisting that everyone should think and believe as we do, and walk the path we walk on. That's when religion becomes harmful. Actually, it is not religion that is harmful. It is religion's followers, when they insist that "This is the only WAY, EVERYONE SHOULD WALK THIS WAY!" So religion does not keep us from being free. Religion is just a path. You can choose to walk on it, or take another path. What keeps us from being free is our insistence that our chosen way is the right and only way for EVERYONE.
Maybe I'm nitpicking here, but I've never heard or read anything about Jesus calling himself prince of peace. As far as I know, He always referred to Himself as the Son of Man. Okay, He did refer to God as His Father, but in the sense that we're all the sons and daughters of God, not just Him.
youre wrong. read more books bout physics and you will see that you could change time. time does not exist. it can be changed. time machine could be real but we just hadnt find out how to build it . the time CAN be CHANGED in physical world. and if you dont agree with that... well whos smarter you or einstein lol. and also everybody even YOU think of god or superior being as 3D. you have to give him logical explonation. thats the only way we could understaind. like jesus - god in flesh (or son of god) moses - voice of god on earth muhamed - gods prophet egyptians have symbolised gods by animals so everybody hasto make god or gods more human so we could understaind it. and what i meant by "later" is that no one should WASTE years of precious time trying to understaind whats beyond. YOU JUST CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT OUT THERE. it wouldnt make sanse to you. imagine this : if you took a fish from a fish tank and show it a world that we live. it is limitet to his water world and imagine how surprised it would be when it would find out what we know. it would be ilogical to it. thats the same way with us. its just ilogical to undestaind whats beyond. you cannot do it without giving the beyond your perspective of three dimensional world. cheers
"and also everybody even YOU think of god or superior being as 3D. you have to give him logical explonation. thats the only way we could understaind." with all due respect, i don't really think we are talking about the same thing. i don't believe in the god you speak of in your post. that was kind of my point. giving something that is unknowable through the brain a name is not the same as giving it a 3D description. i don't believe i am smarter than einstein in the area that he was proficient in-theories, formulas and concepts-i just believe he was ignorant if he believed time was real and could be changed in the physical sense, just as i am ignorant of your real name, or how many craters there are on the moon. please explain to me how time can be altered in the physical sense if it does not exist. i am sure you are quite intelligent, but please don't base your arguments and beliefs on other people's thoughts. that is the fool's path, and i have a feeling that you are capable of much more.
also, some believe that that fish who came out of the water led to what we are today. i would love to be pulled out of my aquarium, and i believe an attempt at climbing out by myself is very worthwhile.
Actually, you are right. Jesus never called himself the Prince of Peace that I can find. i was thinking of a prophecy of His birth (Isaiah 9:6). So I guess he never directly called himself such. He did however claim to be the one the prophets spoke of and so he would be accepting the title of Pronce of Peace by saying this, but maybe this seems to be stretching it a bit to you? Either way, it doesn't matter. The bottom line is my phrasing was wrong and you caught me on it. So I guess I should clarify and say that the BIBLE calls Jesus the Prince of Peace.
Religion is artificial, human-made institution-system that requires blind faith. It requires you to BELIEVE without personal experience. Now if that's not silly, I don't know what is. Religions can be good for people who find no other outlet or way to express/search their spirituality. But they are much like those lines that teach you how to write. At first they are helpful in learning the proportions of the letters etc, but once you have mastered the letters and learned the basics of writing, you can write more freely and more beautifully without those helping guide-lines. - Vortac
I am a Christian first and foremost. I value peace, love, happiness, and God's green earth; and I had these values long before I realized that I was a hippie, so I'm a Christian hippie. One thing that you have to understand about Christianity is this: Christianity is much more than just a religion, it's a relationship- a relationship with a loving God. Religion is a conspiracy that plays upon people's fears about death, and says that if you don't do this, this, this, and this, then you'll go to Hell; but a relationship with Jesus Christ is humbling yourself before Him, and saying that your not perfect, and you need His forgiving love and grace. God is a loving and forgiving God, but people aren't, which is why they set this hierarchy of rules and rituals that aren't even in the Bible. To go to Heaven, all you have to do is confess that your not perfect, and ask Jesus to be your soul's savior, and walk with Him for the rest of your life. It's that simple. So you see, my relationship with Jesus doesn't compromise my hippie lifestyle and beliefs, because Christianity is much more than just a religion. I'll try to put together a list of verses that better describe what I'm talking about.
I don't need to be saved, or forgiven. When Jesus said I am the way, I believe he was trying to tell us to watch how he lived, not worship him. I also feel that the idea of forgiveness was to relieve us of the shame that gets in between us and god. I think it was so we could forgive ourselves; save ourselves.
Jesus was a messenger. He wasn't important per se, the MESSAGE was (and still is) important. Too bad the bible has messed and mutated it up a bit but some of the core is still intact. But people have a tendency to disregard the message and instead choose the easy, foolish and blind route to rise the messenger on a pedestal and worship him as a god. That way they have no responsibility of their own .. "Jesus rid us of our sins!" (if the people who say this had actually read the message he was trying to convey, they would understand the conflict in saying something so silly) The Message of Jesus was simple and clear - but it had to be given by a pure being so that the message wouldn't be distorted. That's why there had to be a very high level messenger that had to incarnate among us and walk among us. The E.T.s actually helped artificially .. hmm, what's the word - insemenate? .. that explains the Virgin Mary (because there was no intercourse, only artificial procedure in which the sperm was delivered inside Mary's vomb etc.). The body of Jesus also had to be strong and high in vibrations so it would be able to hold such a high messenger and he would be able to still live here in a physical body despite being such a high being. That's why ordinary human semen was no good - the semen had to come from higher beings. All this trouble just to help human's understanding rise above the barbaric level it had dwelled for such a long time in .. but it's so difficult to help us - we tortured our helper to death, crusified him and then twisted and mutated and misunderstood his teachings ... This is a good example of how difficult it is for anyone to help us. Jesus also talked about reincarnation and Karma, but this was removed from the bible later on. (I don't remember the year) There are a few references to 'eternal life' and 'are you a reborn Elias' and all kinds of small subtle hints like that that they missed but mainly a lot of important information about these things were removed from the Bible. Most people on this planet today do not have a clue of all the things Jesus spoke about and how he spoke of them. So essentially - Jesus was sent here to give us a message, information guidelines on how to live in order to turn this hellish place into total paradise. And look what happened.. Nobody remembers or reads the message let alone lives it true. Instead people kill people in name of Jesus, people repetitively mumble stuff like 'jesus rid us of our sins so we are free to do whatever we want as long as we remember to remorse 5 seconds on the gates of heaven' without understanding a single thing Jesus tried to explain. Sigh. This would all be so easy for me if I wasn't forced to live on this planet in such an isolation with only morons around me. Well, morons relatively speaking. But of course all this means I am a moron among morons myself.. so I probably belong here anyway. Maybe I was one of those people who stoned Jesus or crucified him or spat on him, who knows. - Vortac p.s. by the way, when the E.T.s who took care of Virgin Mary's material needs and stuff like that used their normal materialization and dematerialization techniques, people started calling them 'angels' .. These beings followed Jesus during his Earthly visit all the time, most of the time being invisible to the human eyes (but most likely very visible to Jesus).. these are the beings Jesus discussed with when such discussion is revealed in the bible etc..
How can you possibly think that we can save ourselves? We as humans are so wretched and sinful by nature that there is nothing we can do to save our souls. That is why we need a savior to wipe our slate clean. My faith doesn't compromise my hippie ideology. If anything, it reinforces my beliefs. The Bible teaches how to love and appreciate everything that God created; everything from the flowers to human beings.
I was actually a Comparative Religion and Cultural Anthropology/Archaeology dual Major in college (before my corporate Data Processing decade long phase) and formally studied everything from Aztecs to Zoroastrians back in the 70's. After reading every holy book I could find, speaking with priests, rabbis, mystics and gurus and attending services of every description, I first decided to reject the "Big 3" (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) and ultimately after continuing my explorations after college, narrowed down non Western choices to Philosophical Taoism. I don't believe in preaching or converting others, but at least for me (and my wife), it has been a religion/philosophy that is 100% in sync with our very liberal socio-political, non-theistic, ecological, pacifistic, non-judgemental and global-centered views. It's enabled us to "practise what we preach" and still feel true to our hippie lifestyle. May everyone else find what works for them!
The problem with that statement is that it implies that we are sinful from the moment we are born. But how can anyone say that a newborn is wretched and sinful? Sinfulness is learned. I do agree however that we cannot save ourselves by simply doing good deeds.
