Over the years my already deformed spine has been getting worse. It's quite misshapen (Curves to the left and I can no longer sit up straight, think the backs of some old people) and I'm in constant pain. My mother hasn't taken me to get it checked out because "I'll be fine, it's nothing that'll kill me." I can't take tylenol every day and I don't have access to weed all the time like I used to. The pain is getting quite bad, anybody have any suggestions? Thank you!
Pork fat is really good for your joints and I notice when my back gets really sore from horse riding I cook up some pork ribs and don't get scared away from the fat and I notice a significant difference the next day. You can also try vitamins such as magnesium and zinc and calcium along with vitamin D that helps absorb the calcium. But it may of may not help you, it helps me but I am not everyone. Hot baths and stretching your back while the bath seems to help. Where exactly is your back pain? My back pain is very low near my hips and waist so I stretch my hamstrings, glutes and thighs out as they deal with a lot of referred pain and leg stretches are essential for your back muscles =]
firstly, see a doctor. If there's nothing they can do for you, then you can think about alternatives. I don't know much about chriopracters, and I suspect that at least some of what they do/think is garbage (for example, the "you've got one leg that's longer than another!" routine). However, working on the spine seems to be their thing. Acupuncture may be worthwhile. Please don't just let it go. It would be a great tragedy if you were talked out of taking this seriously and end up with a life-long crippling condition.
I might try the vitamins, and hot baths temporarily help. My pain is in the shoulder area/upper back.
only thing that helps me is deep tissue massages, though that can be expensive unless you have a significant other whom dosent mind helping out. Me and my ex had a great relationship and we both would massage eachother for 1 hour everyday, god I miss her lol
That sounds great. I'm broke and single, so I asked my cat if she knew how to give massages. She slapped me and ran away.
awww bad kitty!! Theres an easy way to massage your muscles in your back by yourself, I actually was just testing it out too to make sure it works good and wow it feels amazing. Find an object that wont move, ie; countertop, bedframe, desk, really anything that is stable and wont move and has good end points on it. Just go to the point protruding most and lean your back into it. Make sure you dont hurt urself on a sharp corner or something but easily go into it and apply pressure to your back, do this for a bit and I think it should help, does for me at least. And its cheap
I sympathize completely having had chronic back pain for going on 29 years now. I wish I had some advice to alleviate your pain, but really don't know much about skeleton-muscular issues. If it is spinal deformation that is the source of your problems, massage will only help so much, you need to see a doctor to determine what is the best course of action to take. You don't want to embark on something that could potentially cause more injury.
You shouldn't try to manipulate it yourself. I hated the thought of chiropractors because they bend things and make things crack so would never go to one. Turns out there is one a block away from my house and when a friend of mine who worked for me years ago stayed with me last summer while taking radiation at the hospital she asked where's a good chiro. I said I don't know, just go to the one down the street. She did, she came back and told me I should go see him he was amazing. Nope, not me. Then my sister in-law stayed with me and put herself out and wanted to see one, sent her a block down the road. She came back saying I should see this guy. Nope. I was born with scholosis and have had issues all my life but chiro is not my bag. This guy as was told to me doesn't do any manipulation. He uses an Activator so finally I walked over. Looks like a huge needle syringe but it's a punch kind of tool. Nothing hurts and he has helped me greatly so far. Look up chiros doing the activator. It's quite new. Also did you know some foods can help? Like mentioned above, pork fat might help. Here is a new one I am going to try next time I have back pain, Mustard. Supposedly like all foods that are good for us there is something in it that has the right properties to help in the back. There are more interesting foods to help but this one kind of excites me because I love mustard, especially on a big fat hotdog, just haven't had a sore back in a while to test the idea.
Chiropractic can only hurt that worse in my mind. - you need to be on some red vinegar to dissolve build up and make high potassium foods a regular food. Bananas, peanut butter, shiitake mushrooms. If you keep progressing unchecked you run the risk of buildup severing nerves running through all those "wiring" holes we see in the spine. Cut those and it's on the way to the wheel chair if not instantly. Higher potassium foods help fight buildup in the same way they help a bursitis. Lemons are good too. All anti-arthritis foods and avoiding known arthritis promoting foods, because it is worth the trouble and yum food choices too. - Managing your consumption of substances just becomes a little deeper than "all or none" because again, it is worth it. Ginger is a good start. A lot of people are suprised at how much ginger helps and you can add plenty to your diet and be the better off. It's cheap too. Look in the produce section for whole roots and little jars of puree that are really handy. From.there, you want to start adding liver foods like reishi, cordyceps or maitake mushroom and a tea like essiac or a good detox tea that has dandelion and maybe some red clover in it. Milk thistle seed extract is protective and even milk thistle seed itself. Now, you have addressed the liver/organ issue better than most people and can think about adding various pain plants and drugs more comfortably, which even if you are conservative, you will need. People who are going to all their lives look at it as a management continuum; not to end up suffering the ill effects of any of them and rotating them to avoid habituation. Also, realistically, managing habituation when it occurs comfortably and keeping your tolerance down best you can. I give mine kratom as a direct substitute for hydrocodone and rx changing every two weeks, meaning not to take either for any straight 30 day period. Stepping down from there, since no nsaid is a liver blessing, you can pretty much pick whether ibuprofen or acetominophen works better for you and have them in reserve, but the stronger kratom has less harshy liver impact so don't always think "the stronger the harsher" or that using a gram a day those days you choose tylenol is so bad. Physical therapies like lovely hot baths and heat packs (or cold) go a long way too. Stretching, moving and range of motion help fight the muscle tension and arthritis. First it sits you down, then it really goes to work on ya - "yoga" type stretching should help noticably. Let them tell you what they think and what they might be able to do and then get informed on it. It is better to know the pros and cons of all your options. If you are stubborn enough to ignore going this much, you are stubborn enough not to straight up believe "dramatic" claims made that may be more about making money off of you than really benefitting you. If you have a natural loathing of the idea of anyone messing with your back that's called instinct and legion are the back patients who wish they had listened to theirs. Ok - sorry to go.on and for typos, I am using a phone
you guys act like cracking a joint is the end of the world dam if your going threw some pain try different techniques. obviously you shouldnt go to a chiro 24/7 but its something to check out
What position do your shoulders stay in? What's their normal? I'm guessing rolled forward, and that is a huge source of mid-back pain. It over-stretches the muscles of your back, already impinged with scoliosis, and triggers pain. Posture, the best you can manage with scoliosis, matters and will alleviate one layer of that pain.
If there is already arthritic build up yes, cracking a joint actually can do more harm than good that is why with this type condition build up prevention/reduction, keeping "gaurding" to a minimum and aids to posture are the front line.
Hey oddapple. I don't disagree with all the food stuff you said there but a chiro can help some people. They can also do a lot of looking with new items similar to ultrasound that checks what's wrong with the back and X-rays that a GP won't bother ordering up, even if you choose not to go on with treatment. Also I am not sure heat is recommended anymore. It brings blood and even other good fighters to the area but that's like adding to the inflammation which might already be there causing the pain. Seems more medical practitioners are calling for cold as a treatment, as uncomfortable as that can be for some people.
I did say "or cold" and I believe "patient guided" is the rec ie if it hurts, don't do it and if it helps, do. Whether or not any xrays are ordeted is by practitioner and you act like because the guy on your corner does some other clown will...there is no designation that isn't full of idiots. I'm not knocking chiropractic I just think a do is going to be someone else with as much to say. But you don't crack a back blind or ignorantly and you act like because it's a chiro, why they're going to be any better than any other when they do have limits and just as many losers. I thought I was recognizing the op's sensibilities and choice, not slamming back crackers because somebody said "crack that scoliosis" - that's the fool. Watch all practitioners of any designation especially these days.
Cracking my back myself feels heavenly-for a moment. After a few seconds, it brings pain worse than before. I think I may go with the different foods to see if they help.
Stay with them at least a month to see and www.greenmedinfo.com has tons of free info and refs. Searchable databases too.
This is long----------for a reason. Do not see a doctor first! They will give you pills and eventually want to cut you open. Look, I was raised by a Christian Scientist gramma, so naturally she never took me to see anyone unless I was extremely sick. Therefore, I never knew that my right leg was just enough shorter than the left to eventually cause me some severe back problems. My job didn't help my back any either. I played sports too, which turns out did not help my back long term. If I'd only known , remedial action could have been taken. OK. On a roof in Hawaii and my back gave out---broken disc! (laugh a minute!) All this could have been avoided had I seen a chiro and worn a minimal lift in my right shoe. Had a disc operation with resultant left leg shrinkage, constant pain and at that point---my illustrious roofing career was over. Or so I thought. Moved back to Oregon and tried to figure out what the hell I was going to do for work now. Girl friend said she had a friend whose brother was a chiro and that I should see him. Of course I was reluctant, having heard over the years how phony it was to depend on someone to just rassle you around and do any good. Soooooooo--finally I went. The first thing he did was take x-rays to determine the state/condition of my back. Second visit-----HE SAID I'LL HAVE YOU BACK ON THE ROOF AFTER ABOUT 12 VISITS!! It happened!! That guy was my saviour, as it were. I have tried chiros from Florida to Oregon and some were better than others. When I moved back to my hometown of Lemoore , California, I knew I had to find one to keep me going. I got lucky. While home- sitting for a friend, my back started hurting so much, I couldn't get off his couch to go take a piss.! Man I was in pain. Involuntary tears ran because of the pain. I called some friends and they came over to --do something to help. I could barely walk and leaned on them to get to a chiro just picked out of the yellow pages. Boy, did I get lucky!! He turned out to be a miracle worker! He has done such a fantastic job for me, that I see him about once a year now. I needed the operation because a part was broken----you might be able to preclude one ---if you get a GOOD chiro. If you live in the San Joaquin valley------I know just the guy for you!!
