What a fucking dump that place is. I normally avoid chain restaurants, but I was out with my girlfriend last night and we hadn't eaten dinner yet. I couldn't really think of any place to go, so I asked her to give me a suggestion. She mentioned Red Lobster, so I decided we would go there. I can't remember the last time I ate at a Red Lobster, but it was a very long time ago... probably when I was a young child. So were are seated, and the booth is just NASTY. The table is greasy feeling, as are the menus. I look around and I noticed the floor was a MESS. Big clumps of food, etc. I pretty much instantly lost my appetite. Looking through the menu, I couldn't believe how expensive some of the items were. A lot of the prices were on par with what you would pay at a REAL, upscale restaurant. I didn't really see anything on the menu that appealed to me, so I played it safe and ordered the fish and chips. It was by far some of the worst fish and chips I ever tasted. The fish tasted like it was out of a box from the frozen food section of the grocery store.

And I don't know what it is with black people and Red Lobster, but they seem to flock to the place. Doesn't it figure that five minutes after we sit down, about 8 humongous black women are seated at the table across from us, being loud, cursing, and overall just being rude and obnoxious.

It was probably one of the worst places I have ever eaten at. Next time I want seafood I am going to a real seafood restaurant. Red Lobster is like fast food seafood, but sold at the price of a real seafood restaurant.

I was also only there as a kid. So I don't remember much about it. Then was there once a few years ago. It was all you can eat crab legs. And even though it was all you can eat I remember thinking it still wasn't worth eating there compared to a regular restaurant. I guess I am lucky that where I live now has many great mom and pop seafood restaurants. But honestly I am not a big seafood eater so those great places are often wasted on me.

I am a bit disappointed you didn't take a pic of your food this time.

Never heard of it, but I love seafood, so googled it, true enough, there looks like 2, in the uk, both London!!!
What put me off right away, was as you open the menus, it says..
    Dive in!
Now I guess that is the scuba reference to the fish, but really?
Along with PR,s description, I'm glad it's the other end of the country, I'm not tempted to try it!

Be interesting to know if the menus are world wide?

I don't understand the obsession people have with lobsters/fish/shrimps tbh.

Chicken, lamb, pork, and steak for me baby!

mighty are the fallen, i guess. used to be one of those yup scale franchise joints like tgif's. i'm more used to spoiled rich white brats acting the way discribed though. that and retarded redneck alkys. inconsiderate people seem to be the dominant culture among all ethnicities these days though.

food? i love most things that don't eat me furst.
i eat out maybe at most three or four times a month, often less. i pretty much try to go to a different place each time.
where i live there are a lot of all you can eat sushi joints and also all the casinos have buffettes.
and most of the buffettes have sea food sections, which is almost odd as we're landlocked and i forget, but more then four or five hundred miles from any ocean.

i remeber red lobsters in california. i think it was some time in the 80s last time i went to one.

Well, salmon is pretty good when made right. Maybe I haven't visited the right seafood spots yet...

Back to the red lobster chain thing. Went there as a little kid, it was boring. Told my parents everything was nasty. The best part was the Coca-Cola.

    No Red Lobster here.
    But I love seafood.

Plenty of good places on the coast here, with fresh produce.

i agree about avoiding chains where and when you can too. most places in the u.s. they just seem to have over run everything else.
most of the sushi joints where i live are still indipendent, but i haven't seen a mom and pop coffee and a samich place in years.

My boyfriend and i ate at Red Lobster a couple of years ago because the wait at the restaurant we wanted to eat was over an hour and Red Lobster was nearby. It was pretty much as you described, and I was really surprised at how expensive the menu is. The restaurant we originally tried to go to was pretty pricy and upscale but Red Lobster's prices were almost on par with it.

My last experience before that was on a date in high school and the shrimp scampi gave me food poisoning.

    Their biscuits are good though.

It's been years since I've eaten at Red Lobster but I don't recall it being that bad; it may depend on the individual restaurant. The only place we have here that has good seafood is a maw & paw type place that serves seafood on Fridays.

I once worked with a guy from New Orleans who would make a trip back home once a month just to buy fresh seafood; he was my 'pipeline'. He'd bring me blue crab and shrimp, as well as Andouille sausage and filé, and I'd make gumbo.

I will bet that 90% of their business and intended business is American tourists.
Which I find stupid.. half the reason to visit new areas is to try the things the locals would eat/try.

eh...I have been there. I didnot do flips over the food. I did have an apple crisp something or other for desert there once wiith vanilla ice cream which I said..."If I ever come here again, it will be just for this..."
I do like the twin lobster tails at The Outback, though, another franchise..I also like their mashed sweet potatoes with cinammon...........but I only go there once in a blue moon....

Your probably right pen, it's how McDonald's and KFC started.
What's a surprise is we pay twice the price, but for half the amount! Even in Greece the burgers, both beef and chicken were huge!
Good job I don't like burgers! Lol
