Are the Chili Peppers a hippie band? I can see how they could be beacuse they have anti-racist ("The Power of Equality"), and anti-war (The Rightoues and The Wicked) songs. Also, on one song off "One Hot Minute" he's talking about walking in barefeet. But they came out of the 80s. ?
I love the RHCP, they are my favourite band. I wouldn't call them hippy though. Although they do think along many of the same lines.
I love them too! I wish they'd do some touring to my area!!! They're one of the bands i want to see someday.
Blood Sugar - one of the best albums made in the past 20 years, IMO. From a production and engineering perspective, as well as musical. The groove was HARD on that album!
Don't they also have that song..... "Give it away, give it away, give it away, now".... and they also have a music video where I'm sure the guy is smoking peyote of some kind of cactus.... they seem to be hip to the thing
well i don't think the same 'bout their Blood Sugar Sex Magic LP...it' is a good Rock Funk album but personnaly i don't put it in the top of the last 20 years ...maybe in the top 500 of the last 20 years ... Only one of their album can be in the top 200 ... It's their psyché album ...and it's "One Hot Minute" (97) ... And it's their only album with the great guitarist Dave Navarro... It's simple with Navarro they were really good and have a more 70's sound ...without him it's just cool funk for teenagers... But when you're 40 as them you got to stop to play the young cool musician ...stop to be dressed as teenagers...
I was talking more from a recording engineer's perspective (as that's what I do). Song-wise, I concede that it is not one of the best, but production-wise and groove-wise I feel like it is. Red Hot Minute has some great songs and guitar-playing on it, but it doesn't gel as well as the stuff that came before it, IMO.
Here's a question for you... Why does it matter? They're awesome, who cares if they're a "hippie" band or not?
I just like their music and the messages inside it. I don't like categorizing bands into music genres, let alone caring about whether they are "hippy" or not.
It's too hard to classify bands. Music is infinite, and it'll give you a headache to try and put bands into groups.
