Reasons for you young folks to be happy-

I am hostile, angry and confrontational. You owe me thousands of dollars, an amount that will only increase as you reach retirement age, and refuse to graciously acknowledge it, instead lecturing me about how it isn't your fault. The reason baby-boomers should be happy is that we aren't going to leave them starving in the streets like we rightfully should.

And maybe I'm angrier than I should be... But i am.

I totally agree. Today, we have technology that our 1960's predecessors could have only dreamed about. With this kind of advantage we can change the world in ways no one has yet unimagined.

Sorry, Rob, but actually I don't totally agree. Clearly he's angry about (among other things) the National Debt screw job future generations are geting. He said so him self, I think he's right to be angry about it, I am too and I think a lot of us are. Especially because it is a deliberate course of action to (their term) "Starve the Beast". But it started with Ronald Reagan (Ray-Gun). Well, the Reagan administration. I consider R.Reagan & G.W.Bush two peas in a pod. Neither are considered very bright. Both are just "Front Man" for the same band. In a lot of cases, the exact same people. They both are(or were) lightning rods, diversions & distractions. They take(took) the heat, leaving the evil doers pulling the strings out of the spotlight. Don't get me wrong, I hate Reagan & G.W.Bush, I just think they are given too much "credit" for the things done by & during their administrations.

In a sad, ironic twist of fate, what "Spooner" said, "leave them starving in the streets like we rightfully should", is just what the people in control of the Repugnant(some call Republican) party have been working on for the last quarter century. And it's not going to effect just old hippies or other "Baby Boomers" hitting retirement. "They" are out to end all social programs by ending the funding. You name it - health care for the poor, education, food programs, social security ... oh hell, we all know the list. If you wander around these forums, you'll see a lot of people talking about how things will be changed after the U.S. economy collapses. I think they are partly right. Things will be changed, but the part of the economy that'll collapse is social programs part. The lives of the poor will become harder. The rich will get richer and the poor will become more numberous. The economic middle class will continue to disappear, some going up, most going down. Let's face it, it's in the best interest of the exploiters to increase the number of exploitees.

As far as, "you laid it out-take it or leave it-right?". Well, no. I have been and can be again proven wrong. Some of my most enlightening epiphanies have come from being proven wrong. I think that three of the parts of a path to enlightenment are (in no order, and with overlap): having curiosity and satisfying the courosity; asking questions and listening to the answers; being willing, and open minded, to being proven wrong and learning from it. I always try to do as I say. I try to state agreements, disagreements, what I think & why, maybe examples, and the sources of my statements. If I'm wrong, inaccurate, incomplete or just forgetful, I admit it. An example, a week or so ago, in the Politics sub-forum, I forgot about the Yale University Skull & Bones Society. Well-Sorry-POD-but we will just have to agree to disagree-I think you had it right and now you are reversing yourself-He did indeed paint our generation with too wide of Brush/Bush-(hmm!) Bush was never known for being articulate. Personally I think this nation's problems are a lot deeper than who the President is. I have problems with all politicians period. If enough of us band together and speak with one voice, the government will have to listen. The internet is just the right tool for organizing that unity.

Does your anger mean you refuse to listen to or read what "old men" think? Do you think we arent as angry as you? We've been dealing with this shit longer than you have and the only up we have is that we got to experience Beatlemania. Beyond that we fought for a lot of the stuff you take for granted just as you'll fight for the things your kids and grandkids will take for granted. And they'll bitch, and louder than you. I did not mean to sound like I was reversing myself. But I don't want anyone to "take it or leave it" {Sorry, that expression has always been like a burr under my saddle}. I tried to show him respect by showing why I think he's wrong. If he thinks I'm wrong, he should say why. I think he has a right to be angry, I too am angry about the financial (among other things) mess of the USA. He had the National Debt timetable wrong, but most important, his anger is mis-directed. Unless his, and others too, anger is directed on those who are deliberately running up the debt (and other things) and more importantly, unless energies are focused on solutions - well, things sure won't get better. And no, of course it's not your's or Peacevet's or my "fault", and I think you're totally right ... we don't owe him a goddamn dime. That is bullshit. Lots of us have been fighting these fights for decades while at the same time paying, paying, paying out the ass. I was going to point out to him that I started paying SSI & withholding tax etc. in June of 1964, a little over 42 years ago and other stuff like that ... but why...

Tell ya'll something, there are some folks around here that just like to childishly stir shit up, piss people off, cause trouble and start arguments just to argue. They don't want to engage in meaningful debate, discussion, give & take, etc. They like to see themselves talked about, just like I'm doing here. I'm not necessarily saying "Spooner" is one, but he (or she) sure acts like it.

But, my friends, letting ourselves get trapped in their game is a waste of our time. You can not show the light to those who refuse to see. There's way too much that needs to be done. And, screwed up world that it is, there's still too much to do that's ... well, fun & enjoyable. Better ways to spend time.

Poor Old Dad and Peacevet 55-Very good guys-I learn alot on here as well-Do we ever stop learning?-Peacevet has good insight on the world from "over there"-and I thank him much for his efforts as I do any vet-without them we would have no America-remember the British Invasion?-(the 1st one) and POD you are also a fountain of knowledge and stats-very cool-the correct honest information will win anY debate-thats why I am still tryin to figure how Bush pulled that one off-Kerry was honest-About this young guy-He has probably been bombarded with Republican spin-ie. Medicine is making new and exciting discoveries for advancement in the quality of health.
The regime that is currently in power will soon topple and someone normal with a brain will help restore equilibrium.

That's so very true. The medicine, especially preventitive medicine & nutrition knowledge now available are incredible. And the education opportunities are truely awesome. If only more folks would start looking at education not as a chore, but as a way to satisfy curiosity.

And some of today's young people will one day walk on Mars.

Its been a long time since you've had a 3 hour lecture on the shifting economic views of Hayek over his lifetime.

 

We've run up more debt on the Iraq thing than Vietnam. The generation after Spooner will be blaming him for the debt that was run up in the Iraq war.
