Okay, so here's the latest in my life...I need help. I don't have medical insurance and I don't know where to go or even where to start looking for a place to go. Planned Parenthood hasn't been a help to me.

So...I'm a week late. I'm tired all of the time, despite getting 10 hours of sleep every night, or trying. I'm usually up every couple of hours, which isn't like me at all. I've been nauseous a few days, but not severely. And I seriously think I'm pregnant. HOWEVER, I took a HPT and it came out negative. I know my mother's history. With every pregnancy she had, HPT didn't ever show up positive. She had to have a blood test done.

So now, knowing this, just to be sure if I am/am not pregnant, I want to have a blood test done. But Planned Parenthood doesn't do blood testing nor do they know of any other place that will do blood testing. I also have to take into consideration that I don't have health insurance. I feel f*cked, and not in a good way.

I live in South Seattle. Does anyone know of something I could do? A place to go? a number to call? Just something to start with? Brian's never been in this situation before so he has no clue, and my momma is in Missouri and can't help me.

Can you go to an ER complaining of the nausea and mention the late period? Don't ERs have to take you? Maybe they could give you the Blood Test which measures HCGs.

Keep in mind that the home tests they had for pregnancy years ago were not nearly as sensitive as the ones they have now. IF someone is pregnant, they will EVENTUALLY show up HCG in their urine, it is just a given. You can't be pregnant without HCG and it will show up in your urine if 1)you use a sensitive enough test 2)you do the test properly (including at the right time of day) and 3)you wait long enough after a missed period.

Get a good test, preferably one with TWO tests, so you can retest. Take ONLY your first monring urine and do the test right away. Try not to pee during the night, or if you do have to pee near dawn use THAT pee.
THIS is the best way to get an accurate reading.

If you don't get your period in 3 days test again in the same way.

I hope you are OK. Blessings, honey.

I think I'm going to re-test....it's been a week. I did the HPT on Saturday, just a day after I should have had my period. Maybe if I retest tomorrow morning, it might show up. And I know the tests are a lot more sensitive now, which is why I didn't want to listen to my mom. But lynsey on the forums also said that she had to have the blood test taken to find out that she was. And she was pregnant way more recently than my mom.

As far as planned parenthood goes, they only do urine tests to the best of my knowledge.

Do you have the money to go to a doc to have a blood test ordered? I had to have a blood test done in the begining of my pregnancy with my youngest. I didn't have insurance either. The doc visit was about 40$ and the blood test was 50$.

Good luck and keep us updated!

ok....well, I'll re-call Planned Parenthood...They were very rude to me last time I called. I wasn't assuming. I also got another set of pregnancy tests.

I'll test again in the morning. And then I'll call planned parenthood back....Bah! i hate this...

Have you contacted the local department of health? In MO, every county (that I've lived in) has a dept of health clinic that charges on a sliding scale... I'm assuming all states would have a similar department, at the very least something in large cities. They may not offer anything more than Planned Parenthood can, but it's worth checking.

Another option would be to contact any of those anti-abortion places. Personally, I find them morally repugnant (for my very pro-choice reasons I won't get into here), but they do offer tests and some services to women. I have gone to one for a free prego test (urine only at that place, don't know how many if any do blood tests). If you plan to carry it if you are prego, I've heard you can also get some free stuff (like a car seat) from those places if you act like you're considering an abortion cuz you just can't afford a child.

well, that's totally the thing...I don't know this area that well. If I were in Missouri still, I'd know exactly where to go and how much help I would get. County Health Department has always been my source for anything, be it vaccines, condoms, help with health homework. But being in Seattle, I'm so stuck.

Thanks for the info, Crystal! I'll look into going to the Bellevue Planned Parenthood. I'm so worried about this, that I'm starting to stress. And I know that that delays periods and can make you nauseous.

Thanks for all the good vibes from everyone!

freek, in the yellow pages here they have abortion providers and abortion alternatives. "Alternatives" are the ones that do the tests, etc.
Also, try ringing a medical lab directly and see if they'll do the test. Most of 'em do company pee tests, so they do tests not medically ordered.

Well, Brian and I have decided that we are going to keep this baby. After the initial shock wore off, I wasn't upset. I was excited. Only thing I was scared of was telling my mom. I've done that now. She took it...like a momma takes that kind of news.

I've already been to see a midwife. I'm going on medical coupons, talking to the biller at the midwife's office sometime on Friday. Other than that, we just have to start telling his family and getting things together.
