financing isn't the problem with my dudes... being from manchester, we're all master thieves. steal food and bits of money. busk, gig and oddjob for more honest money. most of us live on a packet of crisps a day or so, so food isn't really a problem... we're getting a travel coach, so most of the money is gonna be for fuel
Pete Loveday's a legend in his own time and deserves all the plugs he can get. Go forth and seek out "Russell", my children! For verily, he shall lead ye far from the path of righteousness!
jesikha - what i am about to say is probably going to sound very very harsh and make you pissed off. the intention is not to piss you off but just give you a hand in making dreams into reality. so after you're done being pissed off at me please have a really good think about what i've said....... this is a crap attitude. going round stealing isnt a way to live. you might think you're really good at it but sooner or later you'll get busted, coz if you plan on doing it on a regular basis that's inevitable, whether you're from manchester or not. its attitudes like this that give travellers a bad reputation. wannabe travellers who go round giving other travellers a bad name will not be popular on the road. infact you will be very lonely. you could always surround yourself with others like yourself but be prepared for them to rob you as much as you go round robbing otheres. yep. thats great for day to day living expenses. how are you going to pay for you're tax, insurance and MOT? its more expensive for coaches anyway and you'll need a lot of money to keep them legal. you could always go for the option of not getting those things. personally i wouldnt. i've been pulled by the police 8 times in the last year. this happens all the time. any old vehicle full of young people is fair game to the cops as far as they're concerned. you will get pulled fairly regularly and they will want to see your documents all the time. if you dont have them on you then you get a producer which means you have to go down to a specified cop shop with in a week and give them your documents. if you dont then they will put your registration number on record, so the next time they pull you over they will radio through your details (they do this every time) and the person on the other end of the radio will tell them to arrest you. you will also have you're vehicle (home) impounded. im not sure what the release fee is, but i have a feeling it runs into hundreds of quid. until you can pay it you will have no home, no possessions, no equipment for busking and making money. you aint gonna get much travelling done behind bars. get real! the human body isnt designed to survive on a packet of crisps a day. where are you going to find the energy for actually enjoying yourelves? you will hardly have the energy to go out and find wood on that sort of diet. before you know it you'll be spending all day in a coach full of people who are all in a bad mood coz they're cold, havent eaten for days, no-one has the energy to go out and busk so you have no fuel, no food and you're trapped in a downward spiral to hell. its even more important on the road to keep yourself healthy than it is in a house. its very hard to see a doctor/dentist or anything with out a permenant address. A+E will deal with the worst emergencies, but everything else you have to care for yourself. you will not stay healthy for long on a packet of crisps a day. you will feel like shit. yup, and tax, insurance, MOT (see above) aswell as fuel you're gonna need access to money for every time it breaks down, (which old ones do). a mechanics course might not be a bad idea, but you'll still need money for parts. everything i have said sounds very harsh. its a harsh world. deal with it. if you really want to make a go of it and not just live in dream world then i suggest you do some serious thinking. work out a steady way of making an income, whether its finding a temping agency and doing the odd bit of factory work here and there or buying wholesale stuff to sell. either way you're gonna have to work at some point to earn the money neccessary to keep a legal vehicle. learn to cook. you can live very cheaply on the road. healthy food, (vegetables etc) tends to be cheaper than junk food anyway and pasta is also a good cheap staple part of the traveller diet. all your dreams sound fantastic, but look at the realities aswell or it will never happen. peace and love stardust xxx
Ditto what Stardust said. I'd have said it myself already except it gets boring being the cynic of the boards
