wax glues your hair together instead of letting it grow freely into tight dreads man trust me i used it for 3 months and after havin dreads for 6 months theyre falling apart now man. also they let mould build up inside your dreads- not good dude.

wax glues your hair so it never moves if it cant move it cant dread
it also attracts dirt & traps it it traps water & causes mould wax will prevent u from ever having dreads, not to mention, wax makes already flamable hair extra flamabkle you have a head of candles waiting for a spark..lol

umm did u use wax? sounds like they are totaly cakes with it to me
mine are 17 years old & soft & confy & quit flexible
they shuld feel like a thick matt of hair should feel likje like a pillow a firm pillow, rock hard means u got something rock hard in there, like wax

wash em every week or so, theyre suposed to go to crap before they get tight, its all part of the process,
aloe can be used sparingly to hold em together & still alow enough flex to dread, & washes out easily, but would only use it occassionaly, salt waer rice (then rinced out thoroughly) will help tighten em, but overall just time & patience will do it

no dude my dreads started out fine but now its like this

    -----------------------------
    -------------------------------
================ (this much dread, the rest loose hairs)
    ----------------------------
    -------------------------------

so i think crocheting might be useful and yeah man maybe u used nuthin but maybe ure hair was just made to dread lol

hey im new to the site was getting dreads but got them cut out for school(a sad day, my mom who was cuttig them cried who didnt even want me having dreads in the first place, miss them fellas) , GOD DAMN CORPORATE AMERICA!!!! but im almost done 6 more months till dreadmania begins!!! anyhow im glad i found this site a lot of really good information before i finish school and begin dreading my hair again. i was reading about the bleaching deal, and i was wndering what were all our positions on dying your hair very expressive colors. does that damage, or risk the possibility of dreads being destroyed or breaking off? since i used backcombin method, i was wondering cause i read clockwise rubbing dont work too well, i persoanlly didnt have a pob with it. i dont like dreads that are tipped, i like round ends. is clockwise rubbing a good method to round em off? also since im prob gonna be backcombing, i never really got to get dreads in, just dread bangs, and some natural ones in the back. but if i was to backomb whats the best way to go about doin it without having your hair look separated when your done, where you can see your roots. i persoanally want my roots where if i tired my locks all you can see is hair at my root, not my scalp where serperates from the drad closest to it. thanks for any help.

well i just read 40 pages (give or take a few haha) of info, and i'm starting tonight.
    the natural method.
thanks for all the info, even if it wasn't directed at me.

just one question.. what is the palm roll method exactly? sounds like a kung fu move or something... i figure just rolling the dread around in my hand?

anyway, not gonna really fuss or anything, sounds like neglect is the key surprisingly.

    peace

kick ass hope ure dreads go ok and palm rolling is rly simple dude. all u do is put your dread between ure palms, and roll it like your rubbing your hands together.

not sure if that makes sense lol.....basically put your dread inbetween flat palms and rub them back and forth so the dread rolls like a sausage between them haha

thanks for the info hamish.. i figured it was something along the lines of that, i tried it out on one of my curls, but did more spacing the hair apart than getting it to stick together haha..
yea, i'm only on day 2, but it's been a while since i've seen my hair this wavy/curly. quite excited to see how it'll be in a couple of months. it's only recently i've learnt that dreads occur naturally or else i image i would have been little my hair flow freely much earlier.. it must be fun seeing your hair slowly dread up over time, just seeing hair grow regularly is cool

i'm gonna have to have a look soon to find a good soap/shampoo... i see dr bronners recommended quite a lot, is that a shampoo, or is it a bar of soap?
