I don't know how many of you on here get your stuff published often, but I've just been thinking a lot about the process of rewriting and resubmitting.

It is often technically much easier than the first submission, but it's emotionally much harder for me. I find it hard to go back into a piece that I thought was done and tackle it from a new place. It tends to take me a few days just to feel capable of doing so.

Once I get into it tends to be finished pretty fast, but it might take, say 2 days to think about it, and a whole day to randomly move some words around, and then finally depending on the type of piece and word-count, it can take me from 20 minutes to an hour to do the actual work.

I'd love to find a way to lessen this time, but I have to say it's much better than I used to do. In my early days a rejection or rewrite request meant that I didn't even look at the piece again for another year!

("...you could try this question upon a writer's forum such as writersforum or writersbeat as I don't think those here have the experience to help you now..." went the goblin who opposed to helping someone along the was but then, adding "...the production side is simple enough whereas building up a readership amongst the millions of ebooks out there is another matter entirely, so my suggestion would be to get yourself known upon the internet because increasingly that is where your readers will be now...")

"Speak for yourself, Goblin," says the little mouse, a bit miffed about the Goblins lack of respect for her professional capabilities. "Oh, but I forget we are supposed to be anonymous, right? Well, I am, and I am not," says the little mouse who says to usedtobehoney, "Getting your work published is more often a matter of being able to handle rejection than instant success. It's good that you no longer shelf the rejected pieces but rework them to be better, much like the Goblin himself reposts, rewrites, and improves the old posts he wasn't entirely satisfied with. But next time you think of submitting a story, think again and have a beta-reader go over it to make sure it is ready to be published, because it could easily be you, in your writer's mind, think it is perfect, while the unknowing reader finds the piece with fault." The little mouse empties her coffee much and picks up her red pen to continue on the chore at hand. "just don;t give up," she adds and smile before going back to work.

("...follow the mouse then..." went the goblin approving now, adding "...trouble is that I only know this medium here, so I can't answer your question where the mouse can...")
