if everyone's above average, the whole concept of average loses its meaning...

plus, if lacking extreme physical deformity puts you above average, then that means half the population has extreme physical deformity. this just became a really depressing thread.

That is very true. While "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is true to a certain degree, it doesn't alter the fact that some people are going to be appear physically attractive to a far greater number of people than others. That saying is normally just used as a tool of reassurance, nothing more.

As for the saying "you're beautiful on the inside", while it of course is true that inner beauty exists, (and a completely seperate thing from physical beauty) I think this is normally just a kind way of avoiding telling somebody that you find them physically ugly. I myself have heard that line and variations of it so many times before. lol
