Not all rap music sounds the same, and it has definitely progressed. It's STILL progressing. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're also generalizing and basing your opinion on that mainstream shit that comes on the radio, which is complete garbage. As a personal favor to me, I want you to listen to this song. Tell me if it sounds ANYTHING like the rap you've heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCE00ReZXzc"]Valtiel - The Other One [1080pHD] - YouTube
I tried--I really did. Turned it off after about 20 seconds. Sounds the same to me. MONOTONOUS- DONE IN A MONOTONE. Sorry. Just can't get past the monotony of voice. But thanks for trying.
lol You didn't even give it a chance, if you turned it off after 6 seconds. That's your problem. I didn't expect you to like it, but I expected you to be open-minded enough to at least listen to one verse. Oh well. I can say, with full confidence, that it's not like any of the rap you've heard though.
Well, what I think doesn't mean shit. You know that. It's just a perspective of an old man. It's just below what I consider actual music. Can't help it. I mean I've seen the progression from big band to great rock to --monotone. Just had to say---so carry on. (I will listen ALL the way through-probably) - Joel
It's cool. Different tokes for different folks. My only point is that not all rap is the same. Some(most) of it is terrible, but there's some good rap out there too, if you take the time to look for it.
I have yet to hear a rap song I thought was actual music. I guess I'm with scratcho. Street poetry, maybe.
Top notch--I put this on your User situation--I'll put it here too. I used to go outside at night and sit in my grammas new '49 Ford and listen to gospel music coming from LA. This was in 1949. That music was the prelude to ALL the great rock music the black folks made when they were finally allowed to be heard. Many of those preachers were as good as the great stuff Little Richard was to do later. They could GET IT ON!!!!
Rap has already gone through progressions many times over. Not only has rap been integrated into other styles of music such as Rock/Metal, Dance, Reggae, even country but Rap has also incorporated many different genres into it's style as well.
Indeed. For example, here's Tech N9ne with Serj Tankian from System Of A Down, complete with heavy guitar riffs in the background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4kkzsRJObE"]Tech N9ne - Straight Out The Gate (Feat. Serj Tankian) - Official Music Video - YouTube
I don't particularly like this, but it's an example of rap + country: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhBte0LzahQ"]Jason Aldean Ft. Ludacris - Dirt Road Anthem W/Lyrics - YouTube
Why did you say "and fuck you too" near the end? That was a bit confusing to me who that was directed to or why? In any case, most rap does suck that's in the mainstream... certainly most things that people hear that aren't finding out or digging for more underground rap and hip hop. But there really is so good stuff and some stuff that is musical- you know...has more of a beat and doesn't sound as much like what some people would consider "just talking"... and the message can be very good. There is Immortal Technique. There is Talib Kweli. There is Digable Planets... I mean there is A LOT of different styles, sounds and messages to rap and hip hop.... Just gonna post a couple songs... First...Digable Planets (for an example of "more musical" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nLknje5E9E"]Digable Planets - Cool Like That - YouTube
one more example.... (really listen to this one, scratcho for the message, k?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcxGXANR8tI"]Immortal Technique ft. Akir- One (remix) - YouTube
