Saw nothing in dresses or fashion that blew me away either...i do not understand people with all of the money and long stringy hair on these stars and their hair looks very dry...roots showing all over the place, etc......and thatis the best they can do with fashion, too?

I think Hollywood has also become a joke and not the real glamor mecca it once was once upon a time.

I thought they looked lovely as a couple:

I liked Keira, but mostly because it's Keira, and her eyebrows are out of this world. Plus it's very simple.

    And classy Cate

And ugly betty because she's not picture perfect

Everyone else was lame and boring.

I think the past tends to be too idolized. It was probably like this too, with few classy people and lots of starlets.

The perception of them by the general audience must have been different as there wasn't internet and much gossip tv yet. Now we can get 10 different perspectives out of the media, then you mainly got the one they wanted to show you.

Sean Penn spoke with dignity, though....and looked glamor and acted it....as well, as Julie and a couple of others....and I am not remembering their names, as i never heard of them before.

True. Plus we can see celebs being all ugly and stuff, and without perfect makeup, and in sweats, and all the magic is lost.
I mean, surely they filled in Audrey Hepburn's eyebrows with pencil too.

I favor the movies, too....and watch for the art and story lines of movies...the real art...but they make such a big deal about what everyone is wearing, so it is food for discussion, too.

I found an ivory silk nightgown at Victoria's Secret one year for under $50.00 that is sort of jean Harlowish...and prettier than anything I saw at the oscars...simple....and beautiful...it does not look like a nightgown...it can be worn as a long dress. I am not into overdone fashion anyway.

Still cannot figure out why Joan Rivers was omitted from memorandum. She was always on the pre and after oscar shows talking about the fashions.....
    She was snubbed.

True, and I think glamor was more of a way of being and acting, in my mind...not really how they looked or what they wore.

As a make up or hair person, I would have dones something different for Lady gaga's hair, too...but she still commanded that stage, audience and much of the world with her performance...her real talent.....her movements....etc....her talent spoke for itself.

What is so impressive about commanding an audience as a singer? Shouldn't for a musical artist the content/sound of the performance count. Everything is there or watching tv because they're interested anyway so to have 'commanded' the stage and audience as a performing artist seems easy. I looked up the expression commanding the stage but maybe I'm missing the exact meaning :p

That Jennifer Hudson who also sang at the oscars put me to sleep....Commaning the stage audience is big.
    no?

That is what they are supposed to do in that business...no?

I'm looking from an artistic perspective I guess. Not a business perspective. They are supposed to do their thing (musically). If how they commanded the audience is the most impressive aspect of the performance it sounds like the artistic aspect (sound/content, perhaps a little dance :p in the case of a pop artist) must be not that impressive at all.

    Yes, true art....

but they get paid mega dollars...so it is a business....in Hollywood.

There is so much unsung talent in this world.

I'm watching music TV to try and see what kinds of music is currently popular and try to see how the beats are rolling.I need to learn drum notation to improve my sequencing skills. It helps that I can play basis drums. Some of the Beatles stuff is like a master class in how to write the perfect pop song but I am definitely moving away from that hoary old 60's and 70's tired old rock vibe.If I can keep surviving until I get the small fortune which is owed to me I would like to study music technology at college.Maybe try and find a woman with greater vocal talent than me to produce for.I could record all day and just can't wait to start knocking it out.Pop with a twist is where it's at for me.Sorry to keep going on about, but it means everything to me now.
