i don't like to see anything go extinct (other then disease causing virus and bacteria, and kind of wish mosquitoes would, even if that would endanger some birds).
well that probably explains why people who live where they do treat them the way they do. especially training them. something i had kind of wondered about.

Finally think I beat the wlan whitelisting on my several years old laptop. It at least lets me use a usb wlan dongle now (it wouldn't before, it hardware locked anything that presents itself as a wlan NIC). Don't know how reliable it will be or if I will ever have trouble with it again but we'll see I guess ...

I tried using the internal pcie card, by hotplugging after the bootloader (it won't POST if it's installed) ... that didn't seem to work. And even if I could get it to work that would be a pain in the ass to have to do every time, I'd have to carry a screwdriver around with me anywhere I wanted to use wifi.

There are other ways I haven't attempted yet .... but this laptops hardware/firmware is in kinda bad shape (it literally sat in a box as a pile of dissassembled metal for over a year once and I tried my best to get the keyboard right but the ']' key is a bit sketchy, you really have to punch it hard to get it to register the keypress, all the other keys however are fine). New laptop is needed lol.

After two weeks, I finally found out today, the thing they removed out of my gum is benign, nothing to worry about, just as the oral surgeon suspected..... I had to call them and ask....as i feared they might not be calling me to not ruin my holiday, all of this time.....Big burden has been lifted. Now I just have to go back and see if i need a skin graph and how the thing has healed...It does not hurt anymore at all.

All I can do it hope I do not need one.......yuk.
I don't want anyone else's cells in my body, no matter where they come from...can't they take it from somewhere on me? I will have to find out, I guess, if it comes to that.

doesn't that just run on whatever platform its written for? blender and open office both seem to run just fine under windows. and i'm pretty sure there's linux builds for both. i know there is for blender anyway.

I think if I ever needed corpse bone or corpse anything, I would rather have it from myself or an animal....not another person....would not want someone else's memories...i believe in cellular memory,......I am not against it if it saves lives for things....but the idea of having anything from someone else inside of me as a bone, skin or anything graft disturbs me.

same with mozilla firefox and thunderbird, and their various forks e.g iceweasel and icedove. But Microsoft windows is not open source, and not free (as in freedom). Laptop manufacturers are in it with Microsoft, so implement tyranical firmware features to prevent the loading of other operating systems (one linux I might be able to get to work after tweaking the EFI/BIOS options, disabling secure boot and enabling some other settings, while certain "live" linux OS usb sticks such as Kali or Ubuntu live stall during bootstrapping, or others such as Tails make it all the way to init but wifi is hardware locked by the firmware, which makes it nearly useless). Of course you can look for modded firmware, and try flashing that, hopefully not bricking the machine ... or just not fuck with that bullshit in the first place. Not all "features" of the firmware are exposed in the firmware setup program, so can't be easily enabled/disabled. Some laptop models implement whitelists for certain hardware, particular wifi NIC cards (you can't swap it out with a different one, only ones bought through the laptop vendor.) .. this is more common than the tyrannical "binary blob whitelisting" that I fear will become more common with mainstream vendors in the future as Microsoft plans to take over the world ;p

tl;dr: IMO you shouldn't have to try to reverse engineer your own hardware. Also, I don't want any MS kernel land or firmware code on my machine, unless it's "sandboxed" inside of a virtual machine. I don't trust them much these days.

this thread in /r/linux describes what I'm really talking about here:

i get it now and i see what you mean. totally owning your hardware kind of ended along about the time windows became and actual o.s. instead of just a shell for dos. crapple of course was propritory from the first mac's onward. back in the day there were bsd boxes and other odd things, that were way beyond what anyone could afford hardware wise. trying to compile builds myself was always too much rocket science for me. but there are things the platforms we're forced to live with i find endlessly annoying. and so needless, bordering on fraudulent, that we should be forced to.

the good news is that there are still options out there that respect your freedom. You just won't find them in your local best-buy or fry's.

I think I'm gonna make one of my new years resolutions be to do "linux from scratch" some time next year. That means compiling and building the entire OS from source and configuring it, from the kernel to every system component. Not exactly trivial, but would learn a lot more about operating systems.

the only doctor i ever cared to watch on tv was that guy with the blue police box that was bigger on the inside then out.

before talk radio was colonized by beligerant retards calling themselves conservative, there was a guy calling himself travis-t-hip.
that's the only travis i know anything about as a person. there's also a travis air force base, down toward the back side of the bay area in northern california.

supposed to be asleep, fell asleep around 9 o'clock, woke up and can't go back to sleep. Goddamn non-24-hour-sleep-wake disorder .. I'm putting that as a disability on my health insurance policy (it really is classified as a disability) and maybe get some extra benefits. I'm always sleep deprived! I wonder how much higher test scores like IQ and the SAT would be if I could just get some decent sleep like everyone else?

    according to wikipedia RE: non-24-hour-sleep-wake-disorder:

just joined the Free Software Foundation.

found a bug in gengetopt, that caused compilation to fail. I found the trivial bug, by editing just a single line of a source file, and it compiles just fine now. So, I'm gonna figure out how to become a contributor and submit that patch :)
