    Well you want to go by the exact original meaning of atheism, and yet not of agnosticism? Whyever might one do such a thing? :eek: Oh right, because the falsiy of your argument would otherwise be clear. :rolleyes:

    One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods =atheist
    libertine you sound like an agnostic. lack evidence to believe in a god, yet you dont totally rule out the possibility for there to be a god. atheists do not believe there is a god, period.

    I found that sometimes that when people make statements/or judgements about other people, they (or their subconscious)are really speaking about themselves. I find this more prevelant in people who don't allow the thought that others can be right sometimes.

    I am an atheist. ATHEISM = LACK OF BELIEF IN GODS.

    THE HIPFORUMS OWN FAQ EXPLAINS THIS.

    For fuck's sake, people...

    Atheism is not a belief.

    As I have went back over these threads, it is apparent that both of us have been right (myself and Soulless). However, most of the disagreement is based on the definitions of these words and our sources.

    Obviously, my sources tell me one thing and their sources tell them something a bit different. Thus, until we can agree on a single source on which to base our arguments, I see no progress coming from this debate.

    how the fuck do you not believe there are gods without believing there are no gods?

    belief is a term that refers to what you percieve as teh truth, belief is knowlege to the person who believes. some people base their beliefs on religion some on science. theyre all beliefs. everyone has a belief of some sort or they wouldnt be able to concieve the the notion in the first place. when you dont have belief, it triggers fear in the brain.

    if you dont believe in gods then you believe in something else, or you dont have a view on the topic. if you dont have a view on the topic then you would be considered a type of agnostic. if you have an oppinion on ANYTHING then you have a belief of it as well.

    knowlege = belief
    suspicion = belief
    gossip = belief
    propaganda = belief
    what daddy tought = belief

    every single thing that can define how you percieve the world, is a belief (if you let it define the way you percieve your world that is, unlike silly gossip thtat you know is not true). the mind is compulsed to lay down a belief behind everything, from simple terms like using a phone and just knowing that 'electricity' is somehow inspiring activity, to thinkning about it in terms of each transistor and electron moving through a complex circuit that one may or may not know.

    therefor while atheism is lack of belief in gods, its the presence of belief of no gods. atheism is a belief, or at least part of a belief, for atheism can mean many beliefs.

    Bill

    How does it change your position knowing that the statemant you made.
    Is beyond the conceptions of the average man.
    You use terms like transistor and electron

    The average man or woman knows nothing of such.

    Occam as met people that do not know what the lights in the night sky are. Mature social adults that have NO idea what a star is.
    Let alone an electron or a transistor

    To tell you the truth, me either.

    I think somewhere along the line, you or I or both of us, began to see little rabbits and began to chase them. ;)

    Anyhow, I think that debating these terms, regardless of who is right and who is wrong, is pointless now. We can't come to an agreement on the definition of a fucking word, so how are we going to debate the philosophy behind it? ha ha

    I tell you what, I'll save us both the trouble: I bow out. You can take this as a victory, if you want, and tell all your sophist friends you "beat" Libertine in a debate. There. Although, the truth is that it is no longer a debate, but an argument over a word and I am not interested in what you call to "banter on meaninglessly".

    I think there's a psychological reason, some insecurity, that atheists are trying to project, much like Christians, in saying that something is true which they do not know, for a fact, to be true. It's irrational. And then to try and force it upon other people, whether they're fools or not, and call them fools...is foolishness. It's like the sadist control freak atheists vs. the masochist christians. Science and reason go completely ignored.

    I think I'll print out this page and wipe my ass with your opinion of why an atheist does what he/she does.

    That's what I think.

    Occam agres with much of the philosophy of this site.
    especially
    THE TOTAL SEPERATION OF RELIGION AND STATE.

    While occam does not accept athiesm as a valid position about a god.
    He does support completely. The removal of organised religion from
    any position it may hold that allows it to corrupt the minds of children.
    And the abolition by reaon of the myth that humans can speak for a god.

    If god exists, and wants something..he beter have the manners to
    show his face.
    And not expect reasonable beings to take some idiots word for it.

    Occam was concinced by is sister to go to her church this weekend.
    A 'christian life center'
    To tell the truth. It was boring.
    The pastor was that teacher you had in school who talked like he was dead.
    Occam felt like pushing him of stage and convincing everyone there
    That
    Red is actually blue.
