    I'm a fortunate sonovabitch tonight. My brother and I went downtown tonight for some brews. On the walk back home I took a road I rarely take. I notice this large pile of junk at the end of someone's laneway. I stop to take a look and this van drives up and starts taking the stuff and loading it into their van.

    To my surprise I see this typewriter, it's very large and brown, quite dusty. Upon further inspection I notice that it's the exact same one I have at home, only an older model.

    I walked 15 minutes home with this 50 pound beast under my arm. Free!!!

    Turns out it's an Underwood model (the very best) made in 1949 or 1950, made in Canada. The model I currently have is a 1955 Underwood, looks the exact same, only the keys are more modern, and the paper tray is smaller than this one.

    Looks very similar to this;

    Nice find Lunaverse. Can you still get ribbons for that model?
    I have an old [1956] Underwood in my attic.
    In the 90's I experimented with writing comic poetry. I only ever intended to write one,about the 'Evil Sir Jasper',but it turned out people liked my stuff so a lot of it got published. Any/all profits went to the Wounded Servicemen's charity.
    However it became impossible to find new ribbons so I ended up with a Commodore 24 electric one.
    Still got that too,but I've forgotten how to use it now. In it's day it was ground-breaking because you could see what you'd typed on a small screen and make corrections before committing it to print.
    Seems very 'old hat' today. My,how quickly this world turns....

    Bassline - may I proffer my heartfelt congratulations,sweetheart.

    Have a great day! :)

    Sure can. I use my other one quite a bit. They still sell generic black ribbons for them. I hope they never stop.

    I'll be expecting it in the mail :D

    Care to share any with us?

    Sounds like witchcraft!

    Congrats, I expect pics when you get back.:wink:

    I'm putting finishing touches on a 12' dining table with a 3" think ironwood top. I estimate the weight at 350lbs. I going to need 3 men (or buff woman) to help me move it.
