Are you training for anything in particular or just for good health?

i'm just healthy, been playing sports all my life and appreciate looking my best

I got quite fat for a year or so because of a lazy girlfriend, I dumped her and called her a pig.

Ha! I did as well a few years ago. She always wanted to eat out and then would just lay around stoned. Naturally, because I wanted something from her, I went along with this. After I realised how shitty this pattern was, I dumped her ass.

yeah, this girl was getting takeout for us five nights a week- to be fair I didn't mind to begin with, she was a pretty thing and we had a laugh

but then she got quite fat and what can I say, I just wasn't attracted to her physically. I don't understand how people can actually eat like that... I went back to the gym and got back into shape in about a month- she is not looking healthy these days.

So long as I keep around 175-180 i'm happy. I was only playing hockey a while back and was around 165-170 in weight, but since I started boxing and doing weights i've put on a healthy amount of muscle.

I find, for me personally, I can put on muscle really fast. When I first started going to the gym I put on almost ten pounds of muscle in under a month. Burning fat is much harder to do and requires a lot more effort on my part. I love lifting weights and using weight machines, it's the 45 minutes of cardio that I have to talk myself into doing.

Yeah, well i've been heavily training for this boxing competition for about two months- so i'm ten pounds in that time. I think that's a quick gain, maybe not as quick as yours, but it's because I still do cardio and it is quite conflicting. You really should focus intently on one or the other, but I have no preference for how I should look- I just want to be in good shape, with muscles or not.

I don't think I would like anymore, it would make my ice hockey a lot harder... in fact I have noticed that I can last longer playing but am maybe a little slower at the moment.

That is a pretty quick gain.

The more muscle mass a body has, the faster that body metabolizes and burns fat. I still have a bit of extra weight, mostly due to beer, that I'd like to get rid of. I do both because I find that lifting weights is a good release of tension and is good for my self confidence. I do the cardio and rowing for cardiovascular health. I enjoy doing both.

A lot of extra muscle mass isn't ideal for sports. Being lean is more appropriate. The more muscle you have the more oxygen it'll require, the faster you'll get tired if you can't keep up with that oxygen demand.

Yeah, although i'm aware of all of that I am still keeping up both conflicting things at the moment, it's keeping me in a middle ground area which I like

women like a toned body- I have skinny friends and really muscly friends, but women like the way i'm more in the middle of them both :2thumbsup:

I like being inbetween women as well.

How is though you think cardio and weights conflict?

Muscle weighs more than fat. The cardio you do will keep your body fat to a minimum, while the weight routine builds muscle. Seems win win to me.

    Rather than writing it myself

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/betteru23.htm

"The major issue you will need to take into consideration when balancing your cardio with your weight training is your primary training goal; if you're training to lose fat, your balance is going to be very different than if you're trying to gain muscle or if you're training for a specific sport."

So, I just got screwed by yet another local company.

Our water pump broke down, and as we had been babying it along for a while (it is our main water pump for the property), decided we would go get it fixed properly last Friday.

The seals in it needed to be replaced, because the one tab where the pump bolts together was snapped off and it caused it to vibrate out of line and wear them...

So before putting out the money for a new seal kit, I figured I would take it in to a professional welding shop and get them to fix the broken bolt tab so I dont go through this again.

I talked to the guy for a half hour, explaining how the pump fits onto where they need to weld, making sure to point out that the machined face and lip has to be the same as the pump head bolts to it and it must be a perfectly flat and raised surface (1/8") for it to match...

He tells me it will be about $150.00 and the guy who is the best at welding cast wont be in til monday... So I say no problem, monday is fine (after all, the point was to have it done right...

He call yesterday to say its done, everything went well, but its going to be $180 for it...

Not really happy about the price, but if its done right, its worth it...

Go in today to pick it up... pay the bill while waiting for them to bring the pump out (should have waited)... After taxes and the other charges they didnt mention (ever), the total came to $209....

They fucked it up of course... they ground the lip right off in places, made it wider in other places, and didnt clean around it... short version, the pump head wont fit anymore...

The fuckin asshole argued with me, telling me that there was no lip when I brought it in... (even though I kept showing him how it was on the part they didnt grind down).

Now, even if they wouldn't have ground most of the lip down, they didnt reface the surface of it... so it's not even flat... put a flat edge against it and you can see under it...

And this asshole had the nerve to tell me to calm down... I almost smashed him in the head with the pump....

So, as things stand right now... we still have no water... after a week of no water and 209.00 spent... we still have no fucking water....

That 209 dollars was all of our spending money... actually, it was more then all of it... We had about 150$ left this pay for food, gas and other incidentals... We also have to take the car in to the tire shop today to get a tire repaired... we were supposed to get the other two tires replaced with snow tires and studs, instead, we will just be able to get the one tire fixed for now...

So.. I'll fire up the dremel tool with the grind stone, and hopefully between that and the gasket maker I bought, I can get it working... hopefully...

There's no way you can get those guys at that shop to fix what they fucked up? They don't guarantee their work?

I never pay until I see the work that was done

I had a weird experience once at a welding shop..I went in with a design plan for trailer fenders...made of 3/16ths checker plate steel showing exact dimensions and angle of bends...they quoted me $140...which seemed reasonable so I went ahead and signed the work order

then a few days later I go to pick them up and they had just made one...I said to the guy wtf trailer have you ever seen with just one fender (these were really long too because my trailer is dual axle)

he agreed and we compromised at $40 extra for a second one after he showed me how much the material costs
