counting with your fingers in binary is easy. each finger is one bit. you can actually count to quite high numbers that way (a 10 bit word)

... the number four can be mistaken for a vulgar gesture as it is "0100" in binary and represented on the hand as the third bit high, in other words, the middle finger being extended to represent a 1 at that bit and all other fingers being being in the down position to represent 0 at their respective position.

binary is really an elegant number system, 1000 is half of 0100, 0010 is half that again.

0001 0100 is twice 1010 which is also twice as large as 0101. 0101 is a prime number.

Unix time is represented as a 32-bit "signed int" as the number of seconds elapsed since the "Unix epoch" at midnight, January 1st 1970 (UTC), since it is a signed integer, at January 19th, 2038 the binary number will go from 01111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 to 10000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 with the most significant bit representing the sign will cause the integer to be interpreted as a negative value, effectively resetting the date to January 19, 1901.

simply using an "unsigned int" instead of a signed int would buy us some more years, but dates prior to 1970 would not be ble to be represented. the most obvious solution would be to use a 64-bit "signed long int" which would allow for 292 billion years before it overflows.

crap......I always thought the number 4 was friendly.....4 you.....

and now I have to worry if I use it it will mean something not nice. HELP!

I like binary, even though I have no understanding of it much...it looks very elegant...all of those 1's and 0's.....are beautiful together.....

I will add that the number 5 (0101) is not much better, as it requires the middle finger and thumb to be extended which is just another variation of the middle finger "fuck you" gesture. ;) after that tho it's okay ... 6 (0110) is the peace sign ...

Found a piece of Honduran Mahogany yesterday... It's about 11 inches X 40 inches and about 1 inch thick. Damned board weighs 28 pounds. Never seen anything like it. You can tell whoever was trying to work with it kept dulling his tools getting it planed down and just gave up.

I got a slightly larger piece too... Weighs maybe 7 pounds. (scale won't weigh that low so it's a guesstimate)

I often ponder on how nice this planet would be if plagiarism didn't exist.

You may think I'm a dreamer-but I'm not the only one.....

i actually think it would be nicer if people didn't think they owned thoughts, and just accepted that the same ones might occur to more then one person at the same time.
