I am not making a political statement here, I am sure the issue is debated elsewhere on these forums. I am just stating a pretty incredible fact.

According to an article published in the Washington Post today, complete with citations for the numbers, after the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas on Friday in which 10 were killed (including 9 students), we are left with this stunning fact:

Since January 1 of this year, more kids have been killed at U.S. schools by gunfire than adults have been killed (by any means) while serving in the U.S. military (combat and non combat combined) in the same time span.

Sometimes, budgerigars (mainly males) are not interested in the opposite sex, and will not reproduce with them; a flock setting—several pairs housed where they can see and hear each other—is necessary to stimulate breeding.

"Admiral Halsey" is mentioned in the Paul and Linda McCartney song "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey". The chorus of "hands across the water, heads across the sky" was a reference to the American aid programs of World War II. McCartney later specified that the second half of the song was indeed in honor of William Halsey.

the universe does not owe our species, our planet or our planet's solar system, anything it does not owe any and every other.
it is for this reason, that it is unlikely for sapience to be unique to us.

distance and the relationship between mass and energy, is unfortunately also a reason, we might not ever meet our different looking but otherwise equivelants evolved on another world in another solar system.
it is equally possible of course, they the might be keeping a close and careful watch on us, from a safe distance, for the purpose of protecting the rest of the universe from the harm our current attitudes potentially represent.

its not that as a species we are incapable of growing up, only that we have yet to do so.
(and cannot be entirely trusted until we do)

the universe isn't trying to be crewel. it doesn't give enough of a shit for that.
but it IS up to us, to avoid creating tyranny.

thoughtlessness isn't harmless if you're rich.
it still isn't if you're not either.

if you have to be rich to be free, you're not.
(and neither is the country you live in either also)

if you have to indenture yourself to a bank to have a car or a house, to not be a second class citizen,
the country you live in, is 'third world', even if it has the largest gdp and most powerful military, on the planet.
