There were heavy rains here all day and hurricane wind gusts for about 10 minutes only....that left behind much damage here. A white oak tree about 200 feet tall and 4 feet wide was knocked down about 1.5 miles from here. I saw it laying there when I took the dogs out , after the rain and winds calmed down for a little while....Sad to see....this giant tree, must be 200 years old laying there and uprooted the ground where it lay.....so it just fell from the bottom of it into the roots.......My neighbor has a tree that fell and took down another tree with it. they have a mess to clean up when they get here tomorrow. We were lucky this time...and also lucky none of the fallen trees took down any wires this time....but weather here was insane today.

I spoke to someone about the oak tree that fell yesterday and asked if it was 200 years old,. She said much older than that.....and that she is going to try to find one of its babies to plant in its place. I had a nice conversation with her. She is one of the rangers at the park. She was sad, also....and we spoke of trees and how they communicate and mourn for each other.
I still feel very sad. I saw that tree every day...and now it is just laying there......Ranger said she wants to get some things made out of it for the museum there.
That will be nice, I guess....

 

My educated guess is that something weakened or rotted out its base....as we had an oak tree here that had to be cut down, as there was structural damage to the base of it.....and that may have crashed down on everything here had we not taken care of that last year.

We have one of those majestic white oaks in the front yard here that is at least two hundred years old.....and that was checked last year, and said to be just fine...as we had someone check all of the trees close to the house and sheds. I love trees....and it feels like someone died when one goes down.
