On another note, I'm just more cynical than usual lately. I'm good at giving advice, but lord almighty am I ever terrible at practicing what I preach.

 

Where I am real estate is continuing to go down in value, not up. I bought this house outright and by now I've lost $25,000 in the deal. That is not including the flood damage and wear and tear. (like paint outside, bad carpet, etc.) Those things included I have lost all my money in the deal, but at least I have a house... with no heat!

 

I hear ya dude, ive felt the same too many times.

I worked for big grocery store for over a year,, going to bed at 7pm drunk, getting up at 1am still drunk, going to work, living in a house with no running water, was a full blow alcoholic drinking every hour i was awake, boss made me stressed the fuck out...was not fun..it eventually broke me and i packed my bags and quit, moving out of the state for good. I have not worked for a corporate company since. That place was eating my soul...so i left and got it back...

That was from september 2008 to may 2010. Was fun times...but i destroyed my health and well being...dont let work to that to you...if it is...get out.

During that time, i was never on hipforums...i forgot about this place...

 

I think for the purposes of these stories, we can confine Deanna to a small supporting role. She can also get us beers and take out the trash.

It is good to have a house. The last house I had, I sold as the market was just starting to collapse. It sold for the exact same amount I bought it for, so technically I lost money on the deal. I've been renting ever since - somebody else is sitting on the loss while I pay rent.

That is by far the most tragic aspect of your story.

the way i see it

there is no such thing as a bad job

just bad employees.

personally i find myself enjoying any job i do

i just take pride in my efforts and find that rewarding.

but everyone is motivated differently i guess.

 

My blanket is nice and warm after my mom leaves for work I'm going to lay back down for a little while then work out for 40 mins

You should try standing at a conveyer belt sorting peaches for 7-1/2 hours every night on graveyard shift for a few weeks, where the sound of the machinery is so loud you have to wear ear plugs and conversation is impossible, and then revisit that thought.

i've done a whole host of bad jobs - including what you talk of

i'm not saying these jobs are good jobs exactly

what i'm saying is any job can be tolerable if you just focus on the positives

doing a good job... it creates opportunities and is satisfying.

anyways

a job pays your debt... so much like you guys complaining to me

"try working [enter job] blah blah"

take your case to the unemployed and ask their opinion lol.

i work in a busy coffee shop and some days i want to shoot myself

but i don't hate it necessarily - because i'm good at what i do.

ultimately maybe it's just me

but so long as one person feels as i do

my opinion must have some credence.

 

my random fact thus - i have worked

on supermarket checkouts
in a warehouse
in a call centre (cold call)
behind an office desk
in a coffee shop

i have to clean toilets covered in shit and handle peoples chewed up and soaking food with my bare hands for 9 hours a day :frown:

it is also pretty horrible... so swings and roundabouts.

 

I've been unemployed lots of times - once for over a year. Having that experience doesn't make a bad job better - but I guess that's just me.

IB, you say you're good at what you do. That always helps. I've been forced to make a living doing things that I wasn't particularly good at, when I know there's something else I could be doing that I'm very good at, but not being allowed to do that. And being told I'm not doing the job very well - but I have to keep doing it somehow, cuz there's no viable alternative.

Sure, you can look for the positives in any situation, but still...I was having thoughts of slitting my wrists at the time. But again: Maybe that's just me.

I have never sold my body on the street - so far.
