Brought down a big tree today, tricky guy had buttress roots so not even close to round. I had to carve away one of the buttress' to get it to fall where it needed to. I was off by a few degrees but it probably did less damage where it did fall... Only one understory tree got hit/dead/now, [IMG] it didn't hang up in anything, a few branches at the very top reached the driveway. Base was around 19 inches, not including the buttress extensions and that's at about 2 feet above the ground. Solid hardwood, ready to burn... I'm thinking another Elm.

Made an extension of the tractor road through to the wild rose garden... So a walking path through the woods from the park bench, down to the side yard, now exists. Nice!

There's a huge.... HUGE! amount of brushing to do. Holy crap Batman amount of brushing to do. Also found some killer vines, like... poison ivy with trunks 3+ inches across. :yikes: Never seen it that big before. This should be interesting. They don't make weed killer strong enough for this application.

Just cut the vine. It will die. This summer, I came across probably the thickest wild grape vine I've ever seen. I bet that thing was 9 or 10 inches diameter and was in the crowns or 6 or 7 trees. It was in a timber that I don't think anyone ever goes into except for when we have to do work or maybe the occasional hunter. Someone told me I should have cut a section out of it to keep but what the hell would I do with it? A picture would document it just as well and that vine wasn't bothering me at all. No reason to kill it.

But I do read your tree posts with some amusement. Not in a demeaning way at all. I just like reading how you describe the trees and what you're doing. You obviously have a good idea of what you're doing but to me....a huge tree is 6 or 8 feet diameter. I've done my fair share of 10-12 ft. diameter trees too...over houses and live power lines. But what I mean is that my job is almost boring to me anymore so to read about your experiences and thoughts on them is kind of refreshing because it seems a little more exciting with your relative experience. Does that make any sense? I can kind of put myself where you are and it's much more exciting.

Here is a random fact.....I am a huge fan of stand-up comedy. I watch almost no tv but watch stand-up online all the time. I can almost quote word for word segments by Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Louis C.K., Dave Chappelle and a good number of others. I love it and have always wanted to try it because I think I would be good at it and it would be fun. So for 15 years I've wanted to do this but never did. But I know some people who do it locally and some venues are starting to open up to it. They happen to be venues that I've played at (musically) for years so it wouldn't be a problem to get in for a short opening bit. So tonight I finally started writing my own material. No idea how funny it will be but it's a start and if you want to do something....you have to start somewhere. It's more time consuming than I expected but if I ever want to try it....I have to write it. So that's been kind of fun. The time consuming part is that my hand doesn't move as fast as I think of what I want to write. Then I forget some of it by the time I write it and it's not the same.

Record it as you think of it... write it out later.

By the way Poison Ivy doesn't die when you cut it... It root sprouts.

Ah...that's a good idea. Sort of the same deal with being able to record music as it comes to you. I know enough about comedy to know that delivery is just as important, if not more important than content. You can have a really funny idea with shitty delivery and it won't be funny. But you can have something completely ordinary but have an awesome delivery and it's hilarious. I have some friends and family who I can get to almost piss their pants laughing at the shit I'm going on about and I just love it. Them laughing makes me laugh and drives me further into the rabbit hole to make them laugh even more. I'd love to try it on stage. Being on stage doesn't intimidate me at all. It's like riding a bike anymore.

But poison ivy...not my forte but you could cut it and then spray the stump. Even if it doesn't kill it and it still sprouts....the upper part will be toast. But I bet Tordon RTU would kill it. $14/qt at your local farm co-op. No mixing needed. Just apply it out of the bottle. One quart goes a long way.

Where in North America are there trees that are 10 to 12 feet in diameter… That's straight across from one side to the other right… Did you mean 12 feet radius?…

A 10 foot across three would be protected I would think, no I know it would be in Ontario… It would be a fucking tourist attraction here

10ft diameter would be like a almost 3ft wide tree when looking at it..

No. I meant diameter. I have pics of them somewhere. Massive cottonwood trees in Iowa. There aren't very many left but they are a lot of work. You probably won't find many left with a 12 ft base but you can find a few with an 8 or 9 ft base and a 12 ft crotch. I hate that shit. I don't even want to deal with that anymore but if I do....show me the money. I seriously don't give a shit if I do the job or not. There are only a few of us who can do those jobs and none of us are in a huge hurry to do them.

Ok..this might seem a little fucked up to start with but please bear with me. I've been saving up one dollar bills at the end of every day. I've been doing it for a while and I've saved a lot of them. Like...seriously...they add up quick. I started this a few months ago and have a massive stack of one dollar bills (hundreds of dollars). So....I tried to forget about this money and I did but my daughter and her best friend (my bandmates daughter) think it's cool to throw them around and take pictures with the bills of the floor. They aren't being snooty. They just think it's amusing like the money is a prop. So I decided on a solution....I was saving that money but had no real idea why. I thought the answer would eventually come to me. Tonight I decided that we would give it away. The girls can divide it anyway they want but they have to give it all away. Every last dollar. They're going to go to the places where the homeless are (with me) and they will give all of that money away. I want them to learn that caring for others is at least as important as caring for our own. We are all the same.
