the may flies are out in full freakin force today...those that dont have mayflies?


they are tiny non biters that swarm by the thousands onto cars and surfaces and they very often fly into your mouth and eyes.....i had to get out to smoke a doob at the ferry cause no smoking in my lkids car....3 of the little bastards flew into my mouth within 3 drags...i had to bail and be chased back to my car

they also go in your ears and like to land on you vand then start walking around on you...its awful

anyone else have these today?

My dad's dad's dad and mom were born in Norway and met in Valders, WI. Her family didn't approve, so they eloped and went to ND.

My GGDad left Norway at age 13 as a ship's cook's steward. He had two brothers who also immigrated from Norway. One of them was known to hang with a shady lot, and one day he just stopped showing up.

My GGMom had a cousin named Thorstein Veblen who published a book called The Theory of the Leisure Class in which he coined the term "conspicuous consumption." He also got fired from two university positions for alleged affairs with other professors' wives...

My religious zealot classmate who says all religions have some truth but that one religion is more true than all the others (guess which one ) was talking about "stewardship" of the environment today. I don't like that word because it implies that a person is entrusted , presumably by god to take care of the environment, which is just incredibly arrogant and egotistical. Many religions include taking care of the environment, but I don't like that way of looking at it.

An old gentleman lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
