Today would have been my dads 66th birthday. I went out for dinner by myself and sat at the bar. There was a couple sitting next to me. They were both fairly big people but the guy had a huge head....like.....I was thinking his head was possibly bigger and almost as round as a basketball. I've seen him around town but I don't know who he is. We talked about different styles of beer for a minute or two but he was mostly reading his wife things on his phone. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop but I couldn't help hearing......he was reading her facts about Lord Of The Rings. Seriously.....you can't make this shit up. Now the women-folk are back home and all is back to normal. The dogs and I are happy.
Here is a pic of my dad and my wife on our wedding day. Sometimes people act like they like each other to keep the peace or whatever.....not these two. They adored each other. To this day...my wife still misses my dad almost as much as I do. He was like her own dad to her. Her comments on this pic..... "Without him my life wouldn't be the same. He was the gold standard. He taught my husband what it means to be a man and I am forever grateful to have had as much time with him as I could. Happy birthday, Mike Sr., you are never far from my heart." I'm not nearly the guy he was but I appreciate the sentiment.
Thanks. She's pretty great. I guess I'm glad she keeps me around. I'm good for a conversation here and there.
I should check the time before I decide to do things. I decided to re-season my cast iron cooking pieces. They have to be in the oven for 3 hours. I've only got to wait another hour and forty-five minutes before turning the oven off. I got really sleepy about 10 minutes ago.
The Magnolia it getting ready to bloom, some of the buds have started showing color... Should really start tomorrow. Of course, it's going to snow tomorrow and have overnight temps in the 20's. Imperfect timing, again.
