I am trying to psyche myself up to make a big batch of cole slaw for tomorrow's supper. I never made it before, and it will be the cabbage for the Irish meal rather than just a chunk of boiled cabbage.....I know my mom made it by shredding cabbage, carrots, red onions and adding vinegar and miracle whip and letting it sit overnight. I looked up recipes online and I heard to make it as wonderful as KFC's, and theirs is good, add sugar, buttermilk and cream or sour cream. Really? i think i will just make it the way my mom did....so i am off to shred a whole head of cabbage soon.....and hope i don;t wind up with a big batch of cole slaw that no one can eat....
Home alone again tonight. My wife and daughter are out of town for a spring break trip. Aside from a crappy dinner...I rather enjoy the solitude. Hit the gym this evening and have done nothing but play my guitar since I got home. There have been no other sounds in the entire house all night except for my (electric) guitar...unplugged (so it's really quiet).....and the dogs messing around occasionally. I've just been going to bed earlier and earlier lately but not getting any better sleep. (The dogs think I should be coming to bed soon...they are waiting). I've been sleeping very poorly and I have no idea why. I usually sleep like a baby through any kind of noise. Lately, I kind of fall asleep...then wake up....all fucking night until around maybe an hour or two before I need to wake up......then I finally feel like I am getting some solid sleep. It's my sore shoulders or really bad dreams or noises in the house or the dogs or any little thing....like just rolling over and being either cold or hot. Seriously.....this is bullshit. I feel like I might be getting 2-3 hours of sleep....tops....every week night for weeks now.
earthly shifts into spring season sometimes cause mania ,, might not even recognize it as mania, just cant rest easy ..
Was going to do a bunch of yard cleanup and a burn pile today... They put up a "fire danger" warning for this afternoon. Seriously? It's too wet to walk out there but there's a fire danger?
I had to look up Marzetti. i never heard of that before..... I shredded half the cabbage here, as i did not want too much cole slaw hanging around my fridge for days that no one was eating... ...and was eating some of the cabbage as i was shredding it. I never knew that the inside of cabbage raw tastes and burns like hot mustard a little bit. It was good. Anyway, cole slaw is made, and just like mom's...although, not as vinegary as she made it.....a little sweeter....It is good and a friend coming over tonight should be pleased with it....If it was just me eating it, I may have been more generous with the vinegar...
I was thinking...might get some raisins to add....a whole new take on cole slaw....but I think raisins would add some thing...a little more sweetness.... Stan, who hates cabbage of any kind and won't eat it in any form, tasted my cole slaw a little while ago, like he was being sentenced to death here.... as I asked him to. He did, and said it was actually quite good.
I just found out about poisonous spiders that may be here....and the only one is the brown recluse spider that likes to be around water, so I won't be running around barefoot by the stream here ever.....I will go google them now, to see what they look like.....so if I ever see one, i know to stay clear....
only one spider in your area is deadly.. thats a black widow,, no others can deliver a bite worse than a bee sting.
Another gorgeous, gorgeous day here. :sunny: Piper's leg is better. She's eating but not drinking as much water as she should be. I don't know what's up with that. I made the girls a Lime Jello and Cool Whip pie for Saint Patrick's Day. It was so easy and they were so thrilled with it. That's all I've got for now.
yeah, I don't take anyone's word for anything, and looked into it all myself on google...and she did not mention Black Widow spider when I asked about them...she said no....WRONG! Also, the recluse lives in lots of places, which she did not mention......She is new. I want my old person back who was more knowledgable about these things...;(
i love living in a place where i cant even think of animals or bugs that will kill me lol sure theres bears and moose but if they kill its because you were doing something to deserve it (or you just happened to hit them with your car)
Every kind of venomous snake and/or spider except for those off continent are known to be right here in my area. Plus they have been seeing the timber rattlesnake, which didn't use to be here. I read that somewhere. The past couple of months when bleeding the radiators, I killed a black widow. At least the black widow stand out with that red. Those damn recluse dart around and you don't see them.
there is just one kind of rattlesnake nearby but its a bit south and i guess the river system keeps them out of my area https://www.ontario.ca/page/massasauga-rattlesnake
Let's just not talk about it, okay?; especially not about the s-n-a-k-e-s. Let's think happy thoughts.
