Chickens do not eat raw brussels sprouts. I will report later on whether rabbits and squirrels do. Stuck up chickens! I love brussels sprouts!

I have 2 big slabs from the cut down linden tree that I'm going to use as sitting places...what can I put on them to seal them good so they don't eventually turn into rotten wood? Should I stake them (for termites), as well as the big linden base that I've got out there?

(can't wait to spend $75 on those stakes I'm 99% sure I really need to get out there yesterday)

Any info on how to preserve wood that is always (and already) outside would be greatly appreciated. :)

Termites will eventually eat any wood that they find eatable.... Linden is really soft to begin with and might rot pretty fast even if coated. I wouldn't spend a bunch of money trying to preserve those. Not for outdoor use anyways.... If you wanted to use them inside or on a covered patio, that would be a different story.

Morning! Even though that's a Home Depot product ^, I'm hoping Lowes will have the same type of thing...just like they have the $75 termite spikes. :daisy:

I can't help it...wanting to preserve or keep as much of that tree around as long as possible...you have freshly inspired me to get some of those stakes. Its the stakes that are so dang expensive. Probably the spray "thanes" won't be so bad since I'm just wanting to cover 2 slabs.

Forget the spray and get a quart or two of polyurethane and a brush... Rot will start from the bottom. Double coat the bottoms first and when it's fully dry stand them back up and coat the tops. It would also be a good idea to set them on preformed concrete slabs sold as patio stones. Forget those termite sticks, they are not going to help.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph here today. Since we shut down for the wind yesterday afternoon...we stayed out today. It sucked! Infuriatingly frustrating. I actually threw my hart hat once today....which is a very uncommon sight. Every single little thing had to be a battle!

We had a record 52MPH gust yesterday (record for the day, kinda wimpy compared to others we've had) It's just as windy today but a shitload colder.

Was standing outside wrapping up talking to the heating guy and it spit some snow... I think both our body temps dropped about 5 degrees as soon as we saw that. He bolted for his van and I headed back into the garage and shut the door.

I just brought some trees inside and covered two others... Planting has been postponed for at least a week.

What caused the hard hat to fly was getting whipped in the eye with the end of a branch as it went in the chipper. That was the final fucking straw!! :) Luckily, I was wearing my safety glasses so it was deflected a little but it still got above my glasses enough to hit the top of my eye lid just below my eye socket. I thought it was bleeding for sure at first.

That's why I'm always rambling on about safety shit on the job site. You can get hurt in a fraction of a second.
