I took notice of that too. Knowing our history is so freaking important.... Racism was everywhere (and could be everywhere again if we're oblivious to this or underestimate how intrincite it was and can be: look at Russia for example.. Yeah, i know: certain areas in the States are just as bad)
As you may already know, I qualified in cardiology before moving over to the theater. During times when their was no work in theater design, I returned to my roots and became involved in TAVI (trans-catheter aortic valve implant) On one occasion about 10 years ago, I drove a London ambulance for a couple of years. It was during that period that I learnt about this from one of our air ambulance crew. The doctor who performed what is little short of a miracle joined London ambulance service after the war, but was totally disillusioned by all the limits. In fact what he did that day, would have been unlawful surgery in the UK and he would probably ended up in prison, particularly if the patient had not survived. Unfortunately (for the UK) he returned home to India. Over the years, I have had a spinal investigation and recent middle ear surgery. In both cases the procedures were performed by an Indian doctor and totally successful. The ear surgery was performed by a girl in her mid 20's. It is quite unusual for someone to qualify as a consultant surgeon at that age. I think that it is disgraceful that the UK have cut medical training to the levels that we need to go to India to recruit senior doctors. 30 years ago, India sent doctors to us for training.
I heard of people who got.disowned by there family for dating someone of a different race.I think Its racist to.just hang with and hire. people of a certain race
i guess because they're black and they're legally required to? otherwise, that's not allowed and i've never actually heard of it happening.
I understand the diversive reasons behind affirimitive action but I don't agree with it. The more qualified person for the job should get the job, especially when it comes to trade skilled workers and servicemen. IMO.
I encountered I think about six or seven black people today and not one of them exhibited any signs of racism towards me and I didn't them so what the hell are you talking about?
like its now or never, you dont wanna live forever! you just wanna live while you're alive its your life
I watched a black man get into someone else's car and drive away today and I didn't do a thing. And guess what? It turned out a girl had let him use it. I didn't get in his face or even assume he was stealing the car.
Completely agree. Whoever is the best qualified should get the job, but that wasn't what was happening. Even before affirmative action, Unqualified people were getting hired because they knew the right person or knew someone that had the right connections. It's what we call the "good ol boy" system. Unqualified family members and friends of family members were hired as a favor, and this kept anyone from outside from having a fair chance, and often good talent was overlooked. Then all of a sudden, everyone starts talking about qualifications when they are forced to exercise affirmative action. It was a way to fix unfair hiring practices.
Have you seen the movie A Soldier’s Story (1984) which puts a rather interesting spin on that aspect of the war?
I agree with most of your post, but the part 'as a white person' caught my eye. 'As a fellow human being' would have been a better way of putting it in my opinion. I hate that anyone anywhere has been mistreated. I'm assuming of course that you never pushed Aboriginals off of their land or hunted them of course. I totally get the Australia Day objections by the way. My opinion? Either get rid of it or redefine it to include the best of all of Australia's cultures. You all have a wonderful country.
Harold Rollins, the army captain sent to investigate a murder. I saw bits and pieces but never saw the whole movie. I’m going to see if it’s on Netflix. If I remember correctly, Denzel Washington is in it too.
No, its still going on, and we have to do it Parts of Western Australia and NT have the highest rates of child abuse in the world Indigenous children's removal on the rise 21 years after Bringing Them Home
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Those Aboriginal Australians (or indigenous people) made out just fine for more than 50,000 years before the white man arrived
