Now I see what this is about.

I was unfamiliar with the story until now.

Should Donald Sterling have gotten in trouble and been removed as he was?

    Absolutely.

First of all, the company needs to protect its interests, and that means not tolerating racists comments from an old man who probably used the word back when it was considered still legitimate to do so.

Second of all, despite having made the comment in his own home, he was recorded. In a technological society where real privacy is practically non-existent, one should be more careful of what one states as well as whom one is speaking to. One should be more careful of what he states anywhere and anytime, but the fact of the matter is that the man is just plain stupid.

Going by the same standards expressed in this thread:

So one asshole can say something in private and get banned and another asshole can do something IN PUBLIC and publically shame someone for the world to see and...nothing happens. Love the absolute double standards. Not saying Sterling did not deserve what he got, he did...But Shaqs bullshit bullying should be dealt with too. He is just as bad, if we go by the same standards and should get a similar punishment. We need role models, not morons like this showcased for children to see. Shaq is a horrible human being too. Where is the outrage?

Shaquille was simply trying to bring attention to the rare genetic condition and will undoubtedly follow up by accepting The National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias (NFED) offer to attend an upcoming conference July 22, 2014 in Columbus Ohio.

It’s an opportunity for Shaq to meet with hundreds of patients suffering from the condition and for him to better understand and sympathize with the affected. Shaq could be a tremendous spokesman for NFED :2thumbsup:

Shaq should probably hand over some of his fortune for research purposes.

I'd hope so. I like reading about sports people donating money.
That's why I think Jeff Gordon is one the of the best athletes. He spends a lot of money for others and goes on random trips to tribes in Africa and shit.
It's just sad when it takes a sports person to fall ill before they care about the problem.
It like god, nobody wants to turn to god until it's too late until it's time for you to fuckin' die..

Governments, if they endure, always tend increasingly toward aristocratic forms. No government in history has been known to evade this pattern. And as the aristocracy develops, government tends more and more to act exclusively in the interests of the ruling class -- whether that class be hereditary royalty, oligarchs of financial empires, or entrenched bureaucracy.

I wouldn't even bother joining a forum that had a rule against expressing views that offend people like you.

In spite of the name of HF, sometimes I wonder how long Grace Slick could survive here. I'm guessing it wouldn't be a week before she was telling all the conservative religious assholes to go fuck themselves. Half of those people would probably give Skip a lifetime ban, if they could.

Racism isn't just another point of view, worthy of respect equal to that of all other viewpoints. Racists are pieces of shit, and I don't care who that offends. I'm in no mood to sugar-coat the truth today. America fought a civil war over racial issues, and I'm siding with the winners.

It's become a cliché for racists to say they aren't, and to talk about how many black friends they have. I'm not fooled.

Not sure what Grace Slick has to do with it but I may hope she is wiser than you and would try to look past a person's religious affiliation instead of projecting everything you dislike about a person on this affiliation ;)

Haha, if I read it again it almost seems as you are proclaiming yourself to be more tolerating, more openminded or more of a hippie than Grace Slick

She consistently chooses to define herself primarily by religion. That wasn't my decision; just an observation.

Also, you ignored my main point. Would you like to see a ban for everyone who has different opinions from your own?

You don't know what connection her reputation and name has with the original theme of HF?

Ah, I didn't notice that was your main point in all seriousness because your reaction was to a post that didn't seem too serious to me.
Also, to me she seems just as much a regular person on here as anybody else. If we are talking about judgemental opinions, she has them and you have them also. Why hold hers against her just because she's a christian? Seems not very 'hippie' or openminded to me.

Trust me, I know she isn't kidding around. It's personal.

Why do you never question anything she says about me, or her reasons for saying it?

Have you not noticed how often she brings up her religious views? She does it all the time. That makes the topic fair game.

The US has a very different social history from that of Holland or any of the Balkan republics.

In the sixties, conservatives with strong ties to traditional religious instututions were running America, and young people were mad as hell about it. At political rallies and rock concerts, people like Grace Slick and many others stood on outdoor stages in front of tens of thousands of people and openly told the conservative leaders to go fuck themselves, at risk of going to jail or getting shot. They weren't just saying, "We intellectually disagree with your positions."

So, this stuff has a different meaning to us than it has in various parts of Europe.

Now, we're having to re-fight some of those same battles, as the conservative backlash continues. Growing talk about "reverse racism" is just one small part of the big picture. The richest 1% in the US are almost 100% conservative Republicans, who hold essentially the same beliefs as those that dominated the 1950's here. Until a lot of people get mad about the way things are going, nothing is going to change.

The important issues here are much bigger than any one person.

I sometimes do, but I also noticed that it got personal because you are constantly taking things personal from her and in return always projects everything she says on her religion. So I can't blame her getting enormously tired of you and even pissed at you.

If we look past any side and affilition of you both (which I try to do in all cases), it seems to me you are the one who is most busy with stigmatizing and convicting a person.
I like to think a religious or most other kind of affiliation does not have to matter, so when I see you actively hating on a person because she happens to have opposing views than yours I notice and react to that.

I notice people bringing up personal, provoking, controversial and religious views all the time. We can still discuss them respectfully or if we can not, disagree respectfully. Some people try to do the same with what you confront them with ;)

I take it this was not ment as a response to my post anymore (at least not in it's entirely) but an effort to get on topic again? Correct me if I'm wrong.
If not: you are comparing the social situation of America over half a century ago to now, and while you even acknowledge at the same time it was not an issue that involved croatians or east/southern european catholics in any way you are proclaiming that issue from the 60's (and current conservatism in your area) is what triggers your personal behaviour to Piaf?

I know, speaking for myself, that one knows what the intent of some people are...and my statement has nothing to do with Piaf or Karen...as I do not have a problem with either of them....but sometimes it just doos not work with some people's energies and mixing with others.....period.... and that should not be forced on anyone.....I would not do that to anyone...force an issue....of any kind.

People's feelings need to be respected no matter what they are.
