You know my parents taught me when I was young, you can make a quick smoothy by popping a carrot and a glass of water in the blender. It tastes delicious. Not at all what you'd suspect. Then heat that up, and you have a soup. About an ⅛ of a cup of half and half makes it cream of carrot soup. Or, we used to pop a banana into the blender with milk for a milk shake. Or we wanted to make our own Orange Julius. Like they used to sell in malls. So we hit upon adding a tablespoon of orange juice concentrate to a glass of milk in a blender. I don't think they make orange juice concentrate anymore though. A really old book on helpful household hints said use left over vegetables. Cooked vegetables to make cream soups. Or mashed potato can be a thickener for cream and other soups, because it has starch. Also, I don't know if you know. But for cream soups, you need any broth. They can be all milk as the base. Milk does tend to burn and boil over though.
