I'm from Texas and have been called worse .. and redneck really isn't the derogatory term one thinks it is. Redneck in Texas terms means cowboy and by extension it means one who works by the sweat of his brow. High nosers use it to put someone down, but away from the big city it isn't seen as a put down.

In his opening line he said he doesn't mean it in the derogatory manner. It is just a word and he didn't come in here saying "were homo's going to burn in hell", "how were fucked up for being this way" et al. He came in looking for advice and that is all... and some got their panties in a wad, we really need to chill out.

I take the term in the way it is used and in this context Dark Lunacy used it just like saying "dude". If it is used in general conversation, then it is no biggie, but if a thumper comes in and uses it in an anti way, then I get more pissed off not because of the term itself , butt in the context it was used.

I guess with how you shoudl deal with it, just ask him what he means by it, and that if he isn't kidding that you're really not interested, and if he is kidding, you were just wondering cuz he'd been asking it a lot.
