I have a hankering for some strawberries... I can't wait till all the nice fruits are in season...I'm ready for spring...
I agree, not all men that visit prostitutes are nasty, ugly, and socially inept. Most, I'll give you, but certainly not all. Some just make bad choices at low points in their lives, but that doesn't mean they are bad people. And that DEFINITELY doesn't mean they DESERVE to catch HIV/AIDS or anything else, just because of that decision. It is a sad reality I admit. But Penny did surprise me a little bit with this comment. I agree with almost everything else she has said, and she is totally right on alot of accounts. But to say that she hopes all men that visit prostitutes contract lifethreatening deseases seems not only harsh but extremely inhumane. I'm sorry Penny, I'm just disappointed about this one.
Ok. Penny is hot. But she also has personal feelings on this issue. Penny, if I get the indirect references in your posts, you were hurt by someone who chose to go with a prostitute or something. Ok. I won't broach that. But there is no reason to confuse personal feelings of resentment with something else. I tend to be on the side of Molly and KC on this debate. Molly's comment on the range of prostitutes and lifestyles is very intelligent. People act like there arent' prostitutes who CHOOSE their customers, work independently, in clean and safe environments, etc. They might be the exception, but people ignore the existence of upscale prostitutes who have a functional lifestyle so they can indulge in their prejudice. Prostitution is a big thing for a lot of women. It symbolizes being cheated on, abused, etc. And those are very legitimate issues women face. I just think they choose a false target, be it the john or the hooker.
I, for one, would love to have this thread not provide you with a sense of defensiveness or embarassment. But to help you gain perspective in a couple of experiences and feelings you may of had. We all have issues and it's not a shame to go over them. Even if it starts in a flame-thread! lol
there definitely are prostitutes who choose their custumers etc. and people who can afford them aren't really representative of the masses either
Right. Those are usually ignored and taken out of the debate. Why? Because their existence is an inconvenient argument for legalization (which I know you're for) and an end to stigma.
well, shit happened.. and whores were involved, yeah I'm feeling like shit today and it was easy for me to get bitter and nuts over this very personal issue, yeah but whatever else I expressed that wasn't influenced by personal shit really makes sense
Penny, you know I love you and I hope you are able to come to terms with any bad feelings that this subject has brought up. I know that you are a very caring and kindhearted individual and you deserve to be freed of any inner turmoil you may have tearing away at your peace of mind. We all could fight all day over our stances on the originaly question of the profession, or those who make it a part of their daily lives. But in the end, what's truly important is your own well being and state of mind, and I know you have had a few experiences that have harshened your viewpoint, probably on alot of subjects. And for that, I understand completely. I truly hope the best for you, you deserve it, and sorry you have had to feel the way you do. Take care. -Anthony
Sorry if I sound presumptuous, but you need to work on separating the personal and the shit that makes sense a little better. I usually don't give advice, Penny. If I'm doing so here, it's because...I don't know why... Your posts touched me. I could almost feel the pain in them. Good luck and cheer up, huh?
Not to jump on a soapbox myself, but NO ONE HAS to become a prostitute in order to survive. And dont misunderstand me, I'm not judging, just pointing out a fact. Anyone can work in a McDonald's with or without related experience. And it may not be the most enjoyable job on earth, compared to prostitution, I would say it's preferable. All this bullshit about how some girls HAVE to become prostitutes. There are cases where girls are forced into the profession, often times by their own families, and for those unlucky individuals, I am truly sorry. But as for the girls that make the decision of their own free will, huh uh. No one is holding a gun to their head. They can always find work in something even if it is fast food. It's all in the choices we make. Some make bad decisions. Again, I'm not defending, nor critisizing prostitutes, merely stating the truth. Do what you will with it.
I understand, I never said that my friend or others "had" to become a prostitute, I just said she had to do what she felt that she needed to do, and that I did not judge her for it nor thought she was a whore or disgusting. But people don't know what other peoples lives consist of or why they do the things they do, and to be outside of that person's life judging them pretty harshly is not right in my opinion. Just like how my cousin is a stripper, people judge her all the time, she is one of the most beautiful people I know... Judging is something people do when they tend to be ones who really need to fix themselves... We all have our sad stories, all have things that screwed us up or hurt us, it all matters how we deal with that and move on from it. It is always easier to hold grudges against people then it is to let go. Penny can have her opinions, it would be highly hypocritical of me to say she is wrong because after all we all are stating our opinions here... I just personally see nothing wrong with prostitutes or the people who get them and know that it is free-will (unless they are forced and all that) but that doesn't give me the right to think I am above or better then them (no Penny, I am not assuming you said that or feel that) or that they are wrong, when we all do things that others would also consider wrong or disgusting. This probably made absolutely no sense...
No, I agree with you. As you said, we are all stating our own opinions here, and it is important to remember that each individual's opinion is often affected by true life occurances. Penny was stating her opinion, as everyone else has. She made some harsh comments, that she has already admitted to have said out of anger, and did not entirely mean (referencing the post about wishing disease on others.) I hate to attempt the role of moderator, but in the absence of one, I would like to suggest that we at least try to keep flames and personal attacks out of the equation if we are to continue discussion. Not directed at you Mystical, or anyone in particular. Simply put, the fighting will solve nothing but to cause ill fate to those involved. Please continue.
And in the absence of anyone else mentioning it, I feel like I should say: Anyone with five bucks and a penis should come meet me in the stacks. rofl
I concur... I should have tried to realize that whatever her experience was, it truly hurt her... I tend to say hurtful things when I'm upset.. You should see me when I run out of tampons at 1:00 a.m.
It's okay, I believe we are all strong enough to get through this skirmish alright. I really do hope she finds peace with her troubles, she is an amazing woman.
