So I am starting to go barefoot more, and I have a few questions: 1.) When you build up calluses, do they make the soles stay white in color? 2.) Which surfaces will aid me in restoring my arches? 3.) How does one prepare to go on a barefoot adventure, or any preparation at all? 4.) Is it a good way to wake me up in the mornings? 5.) Does it keep the feet looking young for years to come? 6.) Do the calluses make for less sweat? 7.) Are tougher soles more ticklish? 8.) Do you have to maintain roughness, or does it just kind of stick? 9.) Are tough soles harder to clean? 10.) Can tough soles still feel soft? 11.) Does barefooting alleviate bunions? 12.) Can barefooting correct overpronation in the ankles? 13.) Does barefooting increase foot endurance so I can stand longer?
I think to leave calluses on your feet is asking for trouble! They can split, and cause lots of trouble.. I take care with my feet, I even use a foot spa..But I never moisturiser my feet..They become naturally harder! Your arches are not a problem, it's shoes change the shape of your feet..Just keep them warm in winter, and regularly check for minor damage that can become bigger problems.. It's all about the feet!
Don't! Your feet will toughen up naturally, use an abrasive on them, it will remove the part that will split.. The calluses will still be there, but at skin level
that's what I was going for, calluses that aren't obvious or harmful. But what abrasive? Put fine sandpaper in my shoes?
Emery boards, not in your shoes though, lol You will do ok, it will work in the end... Sandpaper! Wow, Nooooooo!
You can get them for feet or nails, emery board noun a strip of thin wood or card coated with emery or another abrasive and used as a nail file.
1.) When you build up calluses, do they make the soles stay white in color? not that i've noticed... i guess the callused part looks lighter, like with any calluses 2.) Which surfaces will aid me in restoring my arches? no clue 3.) How does one prepare to go on a barefoot adventure, or any preparation at all? same way you would prepare for any adventure. it really depends on what the adventure is. 4.) Is it a good way to wake me up in the mornings? is what a good way to wake you up? not wearing shoes? i'm confused, is someone taking their shoes off and that wakes you up? or do you sleep in your shoes and someone is waking you up by taking them off your feet? 5.) Does it keep the feet looking young for years to come? i'm not sure what really makes a foot look "young." to me, feet don't seem to visibly age that much, beyond nail fungus and crooked toes. so barefooting probably helps with the crooked toes at least. i really don't know what causes toenail fungus, so i don't know if barefooting would help, hinder, or make no difference. 6.) Do the calluses make for less sweat? i'm not aware of a difference? probably not, it seems like the added insulation would make for more sweat if anything. 7.) Are tougher soles more ticklish? i would guess less, but who the hell knows? 8.) Do you have to maintain roughness, or does it just kind of stick? why do you want it to be rough? i have some roughness in my heels, and it keeps getting caught on my sheets. and no, i do nothing to maintain the roughness. 9.) Are tough soles harder to clean? i can't see why it would make a difference. rough soles probably are though. 10.) Can tough soles still feel soft? probably, although probably not to the same extent. 11.) Does barefooting alleviate bunions? i'm not even sure what exactly a bunion is. 12.) Can barefooting correct overpronation in the ankles? i'm not sure what overpronation is either. 13.) Does barefooting increase foot endurance so I can stand longer? seems unlikely. i go barefoot all the time, and i love to sit down.
callused... I think it was more the muscles and stuff between the skin on the bottom of my feet and the bones that changed and adapted more then anything else that allow me to go all terrain barefooting. It really was not about getting callused. "Att New Barefooters: Take Before And After Pictures To Show How Feet Get Better" I forgot to do that !!
I think this was my very first post and answers some of the questions. Next time here I will try and do the question list instead of just this paste, been online longer then intended got to go.
Callouses and cracked heels don't give me any trouble at all. If they get bumpy then I will grind them down with a dremel.my feet look after themselves so I generally leave them alone!
A dremel is a small hand held electric drill (model makers type). It comes with a variety of grinding wheels, abrasive bits and other accessories. I find a 60 grit emery wheel at a medium speed will painlessly remove dead skin/callous build up without causing a friction burn.
