Your arms get tired, melonhead! Or if you're wanting to knit, or read....and it also helps keep baby in position. And you can use it to prop baby up so she can sit up and look around. I loved mine.
has anybody said nursing bra pads? i HAVE to have mine. nursing bras are also very very nice, but i guess you don't have to have them
If you plan to have more than one child, I'd say get as much of the non disposable necessities as you can register for. Anything and everything you can throw away comes in a non disposable form. It will save you loads of $ in the long run, loads. I'm learning the hard way in buying those things myself because I registered for what everyone else does. The rest is really a waste to get brand new IMO, unless you're big on the car seat thing, that's important to some parents. Since having my daughter, I've seen so many good quality used items for 1/3 of the new price. The big ticket items become a nuissance when your kids grow out of them and you have to store them for the next one. Easier to pass them on by reselling to another mama and get another when you need it again, but when you know hundreds of dollars have been spent, they're harder to part with. Remember new things only look new for the first couple of times your first child uses them. lol Don't let the corporations make you think you need to have stuff to be a good parent. Parents have done just fine for centuries, millenia, without Peg Perego, Safety First, and others who are getting rich off of the baby industry. Don't let them play on your uncertainty. Also, some moms don't do their shower until after. My girlfriend had a shower when her baby was 2 months old and found that she made better registry choices that way. Before that, they REALLY don't need anything but you and some diapers, it's you who 'needs' stuff! lol
